Darlings, I like Ronan, but she’s not versatile at all. You can see lots of similarities in all her performances. That doesn’t mean she’s a bad actress. She’s indeed very classy and Thatcherian, but being honest, versatility is definitely not her strength, dear citizens. A Prime Minister always tells the truth.
an actress not being versatile is high definition of not being a good actress. An actress must be able to perform and be different characters almost effortlessly. And that’s what Ronan does.
how the heck does one see similarities in her work in atonement vs her character in lady bird? How does one see similarities in her work in Hanna vs Little Women? How does one see similarities in her in I could never be your woman vs Brooklyn?
come on. Let’s not try to pretend now that you like someone when you dont. That’s a dig at someone but sugarcoated.January 16, 2020 at 6:14 am #1203287508
Now that I have seen Little Women. I’m just wondering why Saoirse Ronan made the list. It’s basically a Lady Bird sequel with a period setting. There’s nothing award worthy here. Ronan is a capable actress, but she needs to end this coming of age stuff. She’s in her early to mid 20s even. Jennifer Lawrence was already playing a full grown woman at that age.
Laura Dern was way better here than she was in Marriage Story, but none is an award worthy performance. Just none
You were one of those railing against Ronan the entire time even before watching little women. If you watch a film with a heavy prejudice mind, it’s hard to change that mindset. You prob sat down watching little women and tried hard throughout the movie trying to find faults.
Those who are criticizing saoirse are mostly salty people upset that their actress didn’t get a nomination or jealous on behalf of the actress their supporting. There’s more to life than attacking those who worked hard to get to where they are. Constructive criticism is wonderful but so far most of them aren’t. They’re mostly soft cotton ball critiques that are used to enable the actresses they support.January 14, 2020 at 10:10 am #1203283916
Ronan is the least versatile of the 5 nominees. Even Erivo has proven more versatility with like 3 roles. BUT Ronan is really good in the costume Dramas. She’s like a more acclaimed Keira Knightly.
LOL HAHAHA comparing Cynthia’s versatility to Saoirse versatilityJanuary 14, 2020 at 1:14 am #1203283259
think otherwise and what about it, Theron is a versatile actress, ronan isnt imo i still think she should be second below Renée for her performance this year. Why poeple cant accept diverse opinion here
It’s okay to have different opinions when it’s subjective. Liking or disliking something or someone because of a certain reason is okay because it’s subjective. You may dislike someone’s performance because it doesn’t resonate with you… that’s okay. But to call someone not versatile and “playing the same characters” when the facts proves otherwise is what’s wrong and not acceptable.January 13, 2020 at 8:12 pm #1203283018
Little Women! I love how energetic her character is! She’s ambitious but she also is willing to compromise and drop everything at the hat to help her family. She’s not afraid to admit that she wants to be loved.January 13, 2020 at 4:54 pm #1203282699
To me Brooklyn and Little Women are the same performance and characters with different names and circumstances.
No way. They’re different day and night.
In Brooklyn her character was shy and meek and introverted but jo March is a rainbow of energy and spitfire and rock hard stubbornness.January 13, 2020 at 4:50 pm #1203282695
Everyone loves Ronan cause she plays the same sympathetic angelic characters everyone relates to. She’s not a bold actress, Her choices are too safe and doesn’t deserve 4 Oscar noms.
im not sure why you have such a bitter taste for saoirse. Did she kick your mom or something?
I can go for days but…
It’s a waste of energy trying to discredit someone like her. She earned the nominations. She had no backing and no blockbuster to her name. She has no social media(which lead her to lose at least one big role), so her fan base is very small. It’s amazing she was able to accomplish so much with what little advantages she had. It is by sheer talent and hard work that she is walking towards the high levels of success in Hollywood.January 13, 2020 at 4:32 pm #1203282625
Parasite & crouching tiger makes sense because they’re foreign made and voters would rather invest in domestic actors/actresses rather than foreign ones that most likely will not focus in having a career in America. It’s how the world works, it’s building personal connections. You would rather reward someone who will most likely contribute and benefit you (in this case Hollywood) than someone who would generally focus in their homeland. It’s a natural human trait.
George McKay was shut out of best actor since the beginning and he came from a highly lauded film although he gave a phenomenal performance.
For Awkwafina I never understood why she was so highly praise critically. She gave a good performance but it still felt like it was Awkwafina being Awkwafina but being a little bit sad. I never saw her transform into a new character. I was like, don’t cry Awkwafina, it’s okay throughout the movie lol Adam Sandler on the other-hand went far and beyond transformed himself. I didn’t care for his character because he was so unsympathetic but it was different than what we are mostly used to.January 13, 2020 at 1:19 pm #1203282070
Saoirse does play the same role. And she’s just lucky she gets to be in BP nominated films because it helps her get filler best actress nominations.
Again with making up fairytales to prop up other actresses. If that’s the case, she wouldn’t had won any awards in the past like the accta and golden globe.January 13, 2020 at 1:17 pm #1203282066
Also, i like every Saoirse’s performances and she was perfect in Little Women but sadly, she isnt a versatile actress, i hope she will leave her confort zone in the future
lady bird, atonement, Hanna, and Brooklyn
If that’s not versatile, I don’t know what is.January 13, 2020 at 6:19 am #1203280235
Hopefully there will be no more adaptations of Little Women. The story is not that good for there to be 13 incarnations.
thats what people thought when Greta announced her involvement in little women and look at where we are now. Successful in all ways, critically and financially.
we have so many Spider-Man, Superman, Batman reboots, not many complain about it. There are many Star is born remakes as well.
