The wokeness immediately goes to Barrino who has not an acting bone in her body. Didn’t we learn the lesson from Zeta-Jones and Hudson Tony performances that mistakenly won Oscars. Barrino is a no-name, she is not winning.
ReplyMarch 24, 2023 at 4:40 pm #1205362987After Bassett’s reaction, no clapping at ALL. She can sit back and want to be an Oscar winner. Her day will never come.
ReplyMarch 15, 2023 at 7:02 am #1205352840I agree with the prior poster who said that Paul Mescal is overrated in Aftersun.

Not his butt 🙂
ReplyMarch 14, 2023 at 10:19 am #1205351966Blanchett needs to expand her range(I mean she has it but doesn’t show it enough) Get into romantic comedies, more humility in her roles. I will argue Streep’s best role in the past 20 years was It’ Complicated. I never found her to be more relaxed, more sensual, more layered, more beautiful. That performance is an underrated gem. She got nominated for Julie & Julia that year, but I felt It’s Complicated was her masterclass. Blanchett need’s a role like that. Everyone knows she can do drama deep to the bone.
March 14, 2023 at 7:16 am #1205351728Glad your crystal ball is in the shop lol Yeoh came close to a nomination for Crouching Tiger and Crazy Rich Asians. She will be back. No guarantee Blanchett will. Look, it’s Streeps longest run without a nomination, 5 film years and she has nothing on the books this year. Cate seems on trajectory to win a third, but maybe in her 60’s. Like it or not, Paltrow is still an Oscar winner. Once you have the title, they can’t take it away….ask Will Smith and Kevin Spacey.
March 13, 2023 at 1:55 pm #1205351021Still disappointed in Bassett’s conduct. Really, she didn’t clap or stand. Not standing is fine, but not to clap? And it wasn’t just at the announcement(she her defenders are excusing her as “being in shock”) She didn’t make a physical movement the entire time JLC spoke or exited. Sorry, a true lady will handle the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. I was always a fan of hers, but she will never get checked off and any SAG ballot in the future.
March 13, 2023 at 11:40 am #1205350821Judi Dench’s win for SIL seems to be holding up ok. JLC did win, so she secured at least 2000+ votes(10,000/5), so people picked her. There are many winners I think were horrible winners, Roberto Benigni, Sandra Bullock, Melissa Leo, Mira Sorvino, Renee Zellweger(cold mountain), Reese Witherspoon
ReplyMarch 13, 2023 at 6:36 am #1205350199Blanchett can feel good knowing she is in the Streep period of non-wins. Streep had many performances in her 50s that should have given her the third Oscar, but they waited for her to hit 60 and give it for a biopic. Cate will be back and win, no doubt, but give her a few years. Let’s not even discuss McDormand whose performance should be the ones people say don’t age well. FARGO was a complete caricature, Three Billboards and Nomadland were sleepwalking playing herself roles- no change to her mannerisms, voice, no cry scenes. But I digress.
March 13, 2023 at 6:14 am #1205350158Can we put the nail in the coffin of these ongoing theme MYTHS:
1. BAFTA winners are the best indicator of acting winners(all went 0/4)
Reply
2. TAR and BANSHEES wont go home empty handed, they will reward it in “actress” and “original screenplay” – told ya, they have no problem sending films with multiple nominations home empty-handed.
3. They will never give 3 acting Oscars to one film
4. SAG isn’t reliable since they expanded voters to DJs and weatherpersons.(4/4)March 12, 2023 at 10:45 pm #1205349672Yeah but she was awful when JLC won, all about the race for her. No longer a fan.
March 12, 2023 at 10:42 pm #1205349665So can everyone shut it about BAFTA being the end all be all? Finally, stats were proved wrong.
March 12, 2023 at 10:06 pm #1205349560Condon was fine, but you people have your heads up your asses. it is NEVER about performance, never.
March 12, 2023 at 10:06 pm #1205349558She had a bitch face when they announced JLC, never clapped, at all, I’ll forgive her for not standing, but still. She is now out of contention going forward.
March 12, 2023 at 9:28 pm #1205349423Angela Bassett showed her true colors
tonight and I am no longer a fan. Her reaction to losing, poor sport.March 12, 2023 at 6:00 pm #1205346224Angela showed her true colors like Danielle at SAG. no remorse for them. Sit your ass down.
