I’m not sure the world needed another DC movie anyhow. I guess I just don’t see it as the horrible omen others are making it out to be. If anything it speaks to mismanagement of HBOMax before any of this merger talk started.August 4, 2022 at 12:26 pm #1205034888
A movie that cost over 90 million dollars to make (and a DC film at that!) that was 90% finished (the directors were set to come back to the us after one of them recently got married to finish up post production work on the movie when this went down) getting completely shelved is absolutely not a normal occurrence in Hollywood. IMO, it’s far deeper than that. Nasim Pedrad’s show, “Chad” got cancelled HOURS before it was set to premiere.
Chad was pretty terrible from what I saw so it’s more surprising they actually filmed another season. And I am sure if the movies they were making were that great someone else can pick them up and finish them. Here is a list of about 20 films that were completely abandoned in history which doesn’t even include films that were abandoned and picked up by different production companies and completely re-shot entirely.
It’s not super common but it’s not without precedent. It’s entirely possible the Batgirl movie was just not very good or they over extended or a multitude of things that caused this to happen. And seeing as how it just happened it doesn’t even mean it is dead yet.August 4, 2022 at 10:51 am #1205034733
I got it to stream live football and kept it for Players. It is an absolutely dreadful platform, though. This is reminding me to cancel my subscription actually.August 4, 2022 at 10:48 am #1205034731
The talk is that HBO Max is going to stop making original scripted shows to focus on reality shows from Discovery.
Some of these shows that already existed are very likely to get cancelled. I think things like And Just Like That, Rap S*it, Gossip Girl, Minx and the new Pretty Little Liars will get cancelled. I think hits like Peacemaker, Our Flag, Titans and Hacks could probably continue, but if someone is willing to literally shelve two whole ass movies that just stopped filming then everything is on the cards… There’s also some HBO original movies like American Pickle being scrapped from the platform.
This was what my understanding was. I guess I just don’t see it as the huge loss everyone else is making it out to be. Even if Peacemaker or Our Flag got canceled it wouldn’t be the end of the world. The latter definitely works as a limited series anyway.
I think the movies being shelved is less of a bad omen than it is being made out to be. It’s actually pretty common for that to happen historically. There is almost an entire film of Back to the Future with Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly out there somewhere.August 4, 2022 at 6:54 am #1205034550
Hugh Laurie won two SAGs and two Golden Globes and I doubt he really ever actually came close to winning the Emmy (even if I personally would have given it to him in a few early seasons).August 4, 2022 at 6:49 am #1205034544
Maybe someone can help clarify this for me. People seem to be acting as though HBO content will no longer be available on HBOMax. Is that really the case? Is there a good link that succinctly explains what exactly all this means?August 3, 2022 at 3:29 pm #1205033979
Hacks got 17 Emmy nominations and performed fairly well, it seems insane that it could be cancelled in the middle of voting like this.
Pretty sure they will just be converted to regular HBO programming. The show is way too successful for them to cancel. You’d think anyway.August 3, 2022 at 12:55 pm #1205033821
Abbott absolutely has to win writing to win series. There’s no ifs ands or buts about it. If Abbott wins writing they are definitely in contention. Unfortunately. Barry or Hacks winning directing keeps them in the race too, though. And Ted Lasso proved they can get blanked in writing and directing and still win. It’s definitely a 4 horse race but I think at the end of the day it will mainly come down to Barry vs. Ted Lasso in most categories.July 31, 2022 at 4:10 pm #1205030978
I’d be pretty shocked if Bateman won and I probably like his performance more than many here. There’s just no way this year.July 30, 2022 at 1:12 pm #1205029928
I still think Qualley could upset. They may not have liked the show but the fact they nominated her speaks to support for the performance at the very least. She would have been the frontrunner had MAID scored the nominations people were predicting.July 30, 2022 at 6:05 am #1205029709
yeah but wasn’t the conversation around SAG and how HoYeons SAG win is indicative of her Emmy success?
Yes. lol People are too emotional here to have an even remotely complex discussion that has even a little bit of nuance. They willfully ignore the point. The point had absolutely nothing to do with merit and yet you have people screaming into the void about what their subjective opinion is anyway. Can’t tell if it’s myopia or ego. Probably both.July 29, 2022 at 6:25 pm #1205029468
will probably mirror Perry Mason’s performance a couple years ago – lead actor and supporting actor noms for Bridges and Lithgow, respectively. I enjoyed the show but the front half was a lot stronger than the back half. The finale, in particular, was pretty meh. I thought Bridges would have more to do as well, but the role wasn’t that showy. It was very physical though and he sold it so well, considering his age + health while filming.
This sums up my feelings about it too. I actually thought the finale was a penultimate episode. It was a strange finale to me.Not now
