I’m just here to gloat about the Christina Applegate, Natasha Lyonne, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge nominations.July 16, 2019 at 8:56 am #1202977656
The Emmys are really going to attenuate themselves by rewarding a historically dogged season of TV so much. If something like Better Call Saul could sneak out the win that would be awesome but we all know who is going to win everything in drama. Total bummer but at least it’s happening in a really crappy year for drama.July 16, 2019 at 8:51 am #1202977588
People were REALLY lost voting in Drama this year…
I got Drama Actor predicted 100% and I didn’t even like who I picked that much.
I tried to watch that Bodyguard show and it was pretty bad. I know this was a bad year for drama but being the 8th best series nomination is just weird.June 5, 2019 at 12:32 am #1202924072
You appear to have had a change of opinion since the first 15 minutes.June 3, 2019 at 7:41 pm #1202922454
Agreed. She has a couple of very nice scenes and a somewhat heroic moment but you have to treat heroism as a spectrum and imagine the lowest end of heroism.June 3, 2019 at 7:35 pm #1202922445
Wait until episode 4. Two serious contenders give their award worthy performances in that episode.June 2, 2019 at 12:19 pm #1202920584
Yeah, I would say so. She could go either way but she has a pretty big arc in the movie.June 1, 2019 at 12:54 pm #1202919495
Surprised nobody is talking about this. I feel like this movie over-delivered. Not just a good TV movie but a good movie period. Hoping Olyphant can break in with a nomination this year. He was terrific. Everyone was, really. But Timmy’s my guy.May 31, 2019 at 10:02 pm #1202918652
What a devastating 6 hours of television. The last episode is probably the star of the 4 but they are all very good in their own way. I wouldn’t go as far to say it’s the best of the true crime genre. But it’s very good.
It sincerely bothers me that people didn’t just call people idiots back in 1989 but when I actually think about it’s not a whole lot better today. Bitch is pointing at sky and screaming that it’s green and nobody tells her she’s a fucking idiot. Unfortunately, that’s a truthfully horrifying thing about life that this show really reflects. The performances are all great but the characters are just despicably stupid. The idea that any of those people involved are walking around free in society is an utter fucking crime against humanity.
If they aren’t racist then they are somehow so stupid that it mimics racism. But there tends to be a lot of overlap on that Venn diagram and I really should stop giving people the benefit of the doubt. What they all suffered through, Korey Wise to a deeper extent, is really truly unforgivable.
I hope a lot of people watch this and I hope it does well at the Emmys. I’ll need to update my predictions because of it.
My only complaint was the show didn’t spend any time in the jury room. Maybe they didn’t want take away focus from the boys, which is fair. But that whole thing had to just be a gallery of idiots asking each other to smell their fingers based on the conclusions they came to.May 29, 2019 at 8:12 pm #1202915875
I did. It was a shell of it’s former self. There are some decent laughs and it’s nice being with the characters again but it suffers too much from being under its own shadow and it couldn’t ever quite out from under it so they just kind of gave into it and it comes off as pandering. Someone once said it was almost like Arrested Development fan-fiction and I found that to be an apt description to a lot of elements of the 4th-5th seasons. And it just wasn’t as sharp or engaging upon re-watch. On its own it’s fine but probably not Emmy worthy. Although, I’d be okay with a few acting nominations.May 26, 2019 at 10:30 am #1202911491
So, I was having trouble picking an episode because drama has really just been dogcrap this year. In the past, it’s usually comedy I have trouble picking things for but this year it has been drama. Then I saw as I was making my predictions in the prediction center that Sex Education was submitting drama. And that’s probably been my favorite show of 2019 so far (that or Barry) so I will suggest the ‘pilot’ of Sex Education – Episode #1.1… there might be better episodes but pilots always get submit so it feels like a natural choice for them.

That sucks for SNL.
Kind of feel guilty for saying it because he seems like a good dude and people he works with seem to like him. But Keenan Thompson is a kind of a funny that doesn’t ever make me laugh. Passive amusement at best.May 20, 2019 at 9:13 pm #1202902505
Bit nitpicky for my taste. I wasn’t hugely behind Gene’s catatonia either, though. I love the show and this season but the finale wasn’t without some flaws. I’m just not feeling particularly punitive about them. I enjoy this show too much right now to try to talk myself out of the show’s own flimsy logic.May 20, 2019 at 8:56 pm #1202902496
Barry went too Daenerys in the finale for me. I get that he is a killer by nature, but he has seemed to have operated under some sort of moral code and that has never included massacring. Correct me if I am wrong, but his previous murders were more motivated than this. We have actually seen him go out of his way to avoid killing on several occasions when it would have been easier to do so. He would have killed Hank too if he were not so good at hiding, which would have changed the audience reaction
They spent a few episodes flashing back him losing his shit in Afghanistan. So, he does have the blind rage seeing red foreshadowed. I didn’t necessarily love that but I didn’t hate it and it felt earned at least.
