Ok… these aren’t that bad?
I don’t think “Beautiful People” has a shot and I am not buying the Halsey predictions, but 6-7 of those other songs are what everyone else is predicting…? Surely less delusional than those still predicting “You Need to Calm Down.”
In my current predictions, I have 7/8 of these with “This Land” instead of…[Read more]
Alright well, she at least beat out AOTY nominee Sara Bareilles for that last slot… which makes one think she might have been top 20 for AOTY.
And using that logic: same case with Lorde in 2018 as well!
For AOTY, I’m pretty set on predicting these six: Billie, Ariana, Lizzo, Gaga, Tyler, the Creator, and Gary Clark Jr.
I would not be surprised at all if the BRP decides to leave out A Star Is Born, but the album is a huge hit and honestly deserves it.
Then there are those last two spots. My guess is that it’s between Lana, Vampire Weekend,…[Read more]
I hate to say it, but if a “big name” is going to be snubbed in the GF, it could very well be Gaga. The BRP is either going to line up A Star is Born for a potential win in AOTY or leave it out because they see it as old news.
Still struggling with SOTY.
What are people’s arguments for ROTY contenders like “Sunflower,” “Talk” getting into SOTY? Neither of them seems worthy to me, but I can’t get to 8 otherwise.
Also, is there any precedent for a song like “Light On” getting into SOTY? A non-hit by a moderately acclaimed new artist…
Radiogagahead replied to the topic 2020 Grammy Awards Predictions: Pop Field (Part 4) in the forum Music 3 weeks, 5 days ago
Updated post-submissions predictions:
Best Pop Solo Performance
“7 Rings”- Ariana Grande
“Always Remember Us This Way”- Lady Gaga
“Bad Guy”- Billie Eilish
“If I Can’t Have You”- Shawn Mendes
“Truth Hurts”- Lizzo
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
“Dancing With a Stranger”- Sam Smith & Normani
“Old Town Road”- Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus
My thoughts on BNA broken into tiers:
Lil Nas X
Megan Thee Stallion
Next in line/left-field contenders:
Yeah I guess Ed Sheeran’s predictions are predictable (“I Don’t Care”), but he’s released quite a few other singles from this album. And I definitely would like to know what songs Solange and Vampire Weekend submitted to the GF and their respective fields.
And outside of that list, I agree that highlighting key submissions to BNA would be helpful.
Hey Beatrich, thanks so much! I think the submissions for these 21 artists are most important to know for making predictions:
Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper/A Star is Born
Lil Nas X
Gary Clark Jr.
Tyler, the Creator
Lana Del Rey
21 Savage…[Read more]
Anyone else feel like Brittany Howard could have ran away with AOTY if she released a month earlier? This is her solo debut and its getting raves. Grammy voters clearly like Alabama Shakes being that they have won 4 Grammys and been nominated a total of 9 times. Howard doesn’t have the highest profile, but she is exactly the BRP would go for.
Besides the fact that it’s a movie soundtrack, A Star Is Born sounds more like Golden Hour than it does Black Panther…
It could very well end up being the “safest” choice.
Though it could also totally be snubbed! “Shallow” was undeniably its peak and that’s old news now.
I’ve said this before, but I think Gary Clark Jr. will be the “Brandi Carlile of this year’s Grammys.” It makes perfect sense to me, but I’m still unsure if he’ll get into all three top categories as Carlile did. Currently predicting him to do so because the other contenders are so weak… I only predicted Carlile to get into SOTY last year.…[Read more]
ANIMA– Thom Yorke
Father of the Bride– Vampire Weekend
I Am Easy to Find– The National
i,i– Bon Iver
I think these four are very safe bets… previous winners with big names and their albums all received considerable acclaim.
I’d say next in line are:
Remind me Tomorrow– Sharon Van Etten
