I feel like The Jonas Brothers have had a successful comeback and that there is goodwill for them in the industry. I would not even be mentioning them in terms of the GF if I could realistically think of 5 more likely contenders. I’m not buying that Halsey will be anywhere besides Pop Solo, and even then… I like “Dancing with A Stranger,” but that song isn’t big enough at the moment.
I’m hoping one of Lizzo’s songs blows up this summer. Otherwise, summer releases from Childish Gambino, Chance the Rapper, Cardi B, Drake and/or Rihanna could easily get in.May 16, 2019 at 2:50 pm #1202896885
Here’s the thing… “Old Town Road” ain’t even a bad song TBH. And it’s a major crossover hit that will attract votes from pop, country, and rap… It wouldn’t be the worst ROTY nominee by a long shot.
Right now, I see 5 frontrunners for a ROTY nomination:
“Bad Guy”- Billie Eilish
“Old Town Road”- Lil Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus
“Sucker”- The Jonas Brothers
“Sunflower”- Post Malone & Swae Lee
“Thank u, Next”- Ariana Grande
Then it gets very hard to predict!April 24, 2019 at 2:25 pm #1202865237
I think Ariana’s reward will be nominations across the board in the GF and 1-2 wins in pop.
Otherwise, I expect an unreleased album to win AOTY.
I think Vampire Weekend could become a major contender if their album is met with acclaim.April 24, 2019 at 8:45 am #1202864738
Bad Bunny deserves some nominations this year! I don’t think he’s eligible for BNA because of his feature on “I Like It,” but it’s past time the Grammys recognize more Latin artists. I think Bad Bunny could be one to breakthrough.April 19, 2019 at 6:44 am #1202858846
Homecoming (Live) is fantastic. And it’s getting stellar reviews. But I agree with the sentiment that Bey is not going to win for this.
I hope Lizzo breaks through!! She is wonderful.
Also very much looking forward to new Lana.April 18, 2019 at 1:48 pm #1202858236
I like P!nk a lot! But we do this every year with her. She’d need to reach new levels of critical acclaim tbh And this first single was a flop.April 18, 2019 at 12:49 pm #1202858192
Overhyping Taylor Swift? Predicting Queen Bey in AOTY? Trying to make Sam Smith happen? It’s 2018 all over again.
My current thoughts on AOTY:
Thank U, Next– Ariana Grande
When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go– Billie Eilish
A Star is Born– Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper
Amidst the Chaos– Sara Bareilles
When I Get Home– Solange
Assume Form– James Blake
Ventura– Anderson .Paak
This Land– Gary Clarke, Jr.
A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships– The 1975
Heard It In A Past Life – Maggie Rogers
Upcoming Releases to Watch
TBA- Childish Gambino
Father of the Bride– Vampire Weekend
I Am Easy to Find– The National
Late Night Feelings– Mark Ronson
Here’s hoping Rihanna, Cardi B, Adele, and Gaga release new music before the deadline!April 12, 2019 at 11:19 am #1202849538
I’m a fan of Billie, but she needs a bigger hit. Otherwise, she could easily be overshadowed in 9 months…March 22, 2019 at 7:06 am #1202825610
It would once again be malpractice on the part of her team if they don’t submit “Thank U, Next” to ROTY and SOTY. “7 Rings” is not winning a Grammy on its own.
Unless something like “Bloodline” blows up and becomes the undeniable song of the summer.March 1, 2019 at 10:48 am #1202800470
I’m personally hoping for her next album to be ARTPOP‘s little sister. That album did not get the justice it deserves.
Have been looking for her to do more dark and dirty pop tracks a la “Heavy Metal Lover” on Born This Way too.
If she goes less electronic pop, I hope she tries alternative rock/pop. I think she could pull off disco as well! Please god no country or Americana… One era was more than enough.February 11, 2019 at 6:52 pm #1202772790
I thought the ceremony was too long, but mostly great. Alicia Keys is a delight. She should host every year. Really enjoyed the performances.
I was rooting for Janelle Monáe in AOTY (it’s a crime she hasn’t won), but Kacey Musgraves is incredibly deserving. One of the best winners of the decade IMO.
“This is America” is fine. Cool to see it make history. Decent choice for ROTY, though I would’ve gone with Kendrick. Gaga (or Brandi) should’ve won SOTY, but Gaga won more than expected anyway. Still shocked about “Joanne.” It’s a great time to be a Gaga stan!
THRILLED for Ariana. I’m old enough to remember when we were called delusional crack heads for even predicting a nomination for Sweetener. Later, fools! Too bad she wasn’t there. Would’ve been a gag to see her beat Taylor on TV.
H.E.R. should’ve won BNA, but she doesn’t need it. Excited to see what she does next.

I hope there is a split! Silly that Childish Gambino isn’t there.
Ceremony has been super great up until this point otherwise.January 15, 2019 at 6:35 am #1202734917
Alicia Keys just announced that she will be hosting.
Would be good on the Grammys to have an opening performance featuring several talented women, predominantly women of color.December 27, 2018 at 11:09 am #1202711542
