With Spiderverse and The Bad Guys being released this year I really hope we get a more competitive category here. Last couple of wins were just boring Disney sweeps.

Now with Mitchells winning CCA maybe we have a race now? Unless PGA gives it to Encanto (which is likely).

This is 100% Unpopular: Marvel did more bad than good to Downey Jr. Yes, Downey Jr. won 350 Million USD and Global Fame but he was a Better Actor before Marvel. Same with Disney and Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp from 1984-2002 was Way, Way Better than Disney Johnny Depp(2003-2021
Hopefully Downey Jr. gets back on track with Oppenheimmer. Also, to be frank for the guy, the only non-Marvel movie he did since 2015 was Doolittle, and yikes with that one.

Both of Michael Caine’s wins are very undeserving (he deserved 2 Oscars yes, but for Educating Rita and Alfie). He was just fine in Hannah and Her Sisters, but Dennis Hopper should’ve won that year, not for Hoosiers, but for his chilling work in Blue Velvet. I personally thought he was not good at all in The Cider House Rules and literally any of the other nominees that year would’ve been a more deserving winner, especially Tom Cruise.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is going to be the first time that a Disney Animation film (Encanto) wins over a Pixar one (Luca).
The only times a Disney Animation movie won were when there was no Pixar nominee in the same year:
2013 – Frozen won; Monsters University was snubbed
2014 – Big Hero 6 won; no Pixar movie was released that year
2016 – Zootopia won; Finding Dory was snubbed
In fact, one of the biggest surprises of this category came in 2012, when the frontrunner (Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph) was passed in favor of the less critically favored Brave (Pixar).

Is there any chance for Sam Elliot in 1883 to get a Lead Actor nod? Amazing work there.

Everyday I’m deceiving myself into thinking Hunter somehow will make it in, because she deserves it so much, which means her snub will be even more painful.

Michael Shannon and Michael Stuhlbag in The Shape of Water though I can see why they preferred Jenkins.
