That video was unforgivable.June 29, 2020 at 2:51 pm #1203557758
Another uninspired Oscar vehicle biopic. As an earlier poster said, it’s just Hudson singing Respect.June 29, 2020 at 2:47 pm #1203557746
And who do you think is going to win his second oscar for directing first? -Guillermo Del Toro -Martin Scorsese -Damien Chazelle -James Cameron -Bong Joon Ho -Kathryn Bigelow
Probably Del Toro or Scorsese. But it would be nice to see James Cameron ruffle Hollywood’s feathers by winning another one.June 28, 2020 at 7:27 am #1203555533

Reading all the nominees over a year later just makes me realise how criminally robbed The Favourite was. Jesus f*cking Christ, what a spectacular film.June 24, 2020 at 1:54 am #1203549313
If the Academy has any sense whatsoever, they’ll reward Dua Lipa for FN.June 17, 2020 at 6:30 pm #1203539505
I’m not a big fan of the album. None of the three most social media hyped female pop albums this year (Rina, Dua, Gaga) have done much for me beyond a few songs. But I would like to see Rina break through for the sake of new blood and because I feel she has potential. I briefly thought she could make a slight wave beyond BNA. But now I just don’t see it happening. The main thing she has going for her is acclaim, but the album is missing out on a lot publications’ mid-year best of lists or is ranked a lot lower than expected. Highlighting once again how MC scores don’t always correlate to critical reception.
I think, of all the pop girlies this year, Rina deserves an AOTY nod the most. Future Nostalgia was sonically great, but I don’t think there’s anything groundbreaking about it conceptually. It’s a catalogue of consecutive bops, which I definitely appreciate. Chromatica was a lacklustre disappointment and its tepid critical response confirms that. There’s something refreshing about Sawayama though, sonically and artistically. Whether the Metascore actually matters to the Academy or not (most likely not but that remains to be seen), it’s certainly advantageous that Sawayama is one of the most critically acclaimed pop albums of the year, vastly ahead of Chromatica. Seems to resonate with critics better than Future Nostalgia too, albeit only marginally.June 17, 2020 at 5:32 pm #1203539454
A truly awful casting choice.June 17, 2020 at 5:29 pm #1203539448
Really hope Sawayama gets an AOTY nod. The best pop album of the year.June 1, 2020 at 11:03 am #1203511845
The man has a freaking Wikipedia article about his filmmaking style. His films have 34 Oscar nominations and 10 wins. Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He has a CBE for achievements in film. The BBC considers Memento, The Dark Knight, and Inception as among the 100 greatest films of the 21st century. He’s one of the most studied directors in Britain. Following is considered one of the best no-budget films of all time. Memento is often ranked as among the greatest screenplays of all time and the best-edited films of all time. It’s considered “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress, and considered deserving of preservation by the National Film Registry. His Dark Knight films are seen as some of the best superhero films of all time. Inception is considered one of the best movies of all time. Dunkirk is considered one of the best war movies of all time. Even Nolan’s less well-received movies (Insomnia, The Prestige, Interstellar) are still unbelievably lauded.
All that acclaim and he still doesn’t belong on that list. I said what I said. Deal with it.
