Stewart, Cruz and now Chastain are in.
I was skeptical about Eyes of Tammy Faye before, but she is getting raves at TIFF today and that with her record will see her comfortably into the noms.
Olivia will probably make it in but there’s still quite a few lead actress contenders with films to go (Gaga, Blanchett, Kidman), so I will hold off on predicting her for now.
Hudson and Balfe sitting just outside the top 5 for me right now, either could move up depending on how the remaining films go.September 13, 2021 at 4:38 am #1204456503
You guys do realise it’s September right? The Oscars are six months away. Saying such and such is easily winning (and this is referring to really every thread here) or easily getting in is incredibly premature when half of these films don’t even have trailers yet. Or have we not learned our lesson from last year lol?
Unless you’re talking about Last Night in Soho…right?
Haha sorry, I completely agree – wish this could be reposted on every single thread because it is really exhaustingSeptember 13, 2021 at 4:30 am #1204456489
Belfast is the only genuinely likely best picture winner so far. A lot of the others mentioned here are amazing films which will be nominated, but they don’t have the right factors to secure a BP win (which Belfast has shamelessly and quite effectively deployed). You guys know that. And POTD winning director and not golden lion should also have been a good indication of where that is headed.
The next two serious challengers to be placed are Liquorice Pizza and Nightmare Alley.September 11, 2021 at 11:28 am #1204451366
Only Cruz is truly locked tbh. Stewart is very very likely locked BUT she has to overcome some academy snobbery to get in. She obviously deserves it and I hope she gets in, but I am not totally ruling out a massive snub late in the game. It’s delusional to think there’s not a slight risk of that if the best actress race heats up.
And Jessica hasn’t really taken off yet so she’s not a lockSeptember 11, 2021 at 11:20 am #1204451323
