It was a bit rushed like people said, they could’ve really used some scenes to flesh out the characters more, and hopefully we’ll get an extended edition somewhere along the way (though I know Villeneuve is ideologically opposed to that sort of thing). The fall of house Atreides would feel more meaningful if we spent more time with them. I felt the direction was very good, and the effects are probably the best we’ll see this year. The worldbuilding was excellent, and the world felt lived in. I liked the sound as well. It terms of performances I felt everyone did a good job with their roles, though Isaac honestly was sleepwalking a bit, no-one really deserves to be nominated. Overall I loved it, but that’s expected.October 24, 2021 at 8:52 pm #1204537280
But it’s the real for me though. I don’t want others to flop, but in the end there is only one winner right? I absolutely want a movie where one of my favorite actresses and one of my favorite actors are leading to succeed both critically and also with awards attention. Especially when helmed by a writer/director that I appreciate. I think that’s most of us when there is a name involved that we respect and enjoy their work.
Yeah but how do you know if a movie isn’t going to turn out to one of your favourites? Maybe an actor will charm you, or a director you previously discarded will evolve? You have literally nothing to lose from keeping an open mind.October 24, 2021 at 3:07 pm #1204536815
Some people want it to flop so hard, and I don’t get it hahaha I mean, if it’s good it’s another one for us to enjoy…
Because this is sport for a lot of people here, and they already picked a team, and for their team to win it’s best for them that all others flop. It’s an intensely obnoxious attitude that is absolutely RIFE on this board.October 24, 2021 at 8:20 am #1204536119
Box office projections aren’t looking great for Soho at the minute.October 23, 2021 at 7:34 pm #1204535274
Leo is coming. ““This just screened to a group of critics here and… I wasn’t ready for this but… They’re raving it like crazy. Like, they’re thinking this will get around 10 nods and win many of them. It has much more VFX than I expected. The original song is not an end-titles one but marks one of the funniest scenes, Streep can win her 4th, Original Screenplay win may be a lock, SAG Ensemble is in the bag, this is Leo’s best ever, the film’s insanely funny kinda raving I’m talking about. I don’t know what to think right now.” Yeah yeah I know best ever and all that. But still, he’s coming. I just wanted to do the “______is coming” thing so I reposted this quote which was posted already.
I’d be legitimately shocked if this turns out to be Leo’s best.October 23, 2021 at 2:14 am #1204533494
I do wonder if WB/HBO MAX will request that Villeneuve complete the saga in episodic “TV/Streaming” form vs. feature film.
No way, it’s doing reasonably well at the box office, and there’s no real point to cut the second film into episodes, it can fit into a two hour movie quite well.October 18, 2021 at 5:27 pm #1204525272
Bit mad how The Green Knight outopened this movie. A24 is too powerful!September 25, 2021 at 2:45 pm #1204485628
The editing in that DLU was obviously intentionally unnerving, trying to project the anxiety of Leo’s character. I liked Jonah tbh, the rest was whatever. Really not the trainwreck people here are saying it is.September 24, 2021 at 9:27 am #1204483410

About what I expected from such a strong trailer, I wonder what’s behind its rejection from Venice?September 19, 2021 at 3:41 pm #1204470442
Not in all. Just some. And its going to do very low numbers domestic. It wont reach 100M domestic because of HBO Max. 80M tops. It would need 270M international to reach 350M worldwide. If it reaches 350M worldwide, i would be surprised
In the aggergate it’s doing better than all of them, and unlike the Marvel movies it’s getting released in China. Like I said it’s currently outperfoming Tenet, which made 300M international, to say that it definitely can’t reach 270M makes it seem liike you’re just not aware of the current figures.September 19, 2021 at 2:39 pm #1204470344
Filming budget by itself- 165-180 million Marketing budget by itself- I’d imagine 150-200 Million give or take At the end of the day, Dune needs to make closer to 350 million just to break even. There is no way it’s even coming close to that.
That’s…an odd prediction. In the territories it’s been released in it has outperformed Tenet, Black Widow, Shang Chi, and Godzilla vs Kong. It’s too early to say where it will go, but to say that it has no way to reach 350 is plain wrong.
