Gyllenhaal is great for sure but I went for Driver because I think he just has the edge at the minute and is making some interesting choices.
Also Gyllenhaal definitely had a head start as he’s a child of Hollywood (Jamie Lee Curtis is his godmother) whereas Driver is just some working class dude who wound up at Juilliard. So that gives him an e…[Read more]

I don’t think anyone has the new Baumbach in their predictions, but it will almost definitely be 2023 season – it’s not filming until June.
It’s also confirmed to be an adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel White Noise, which is extremely left field for Baumbach.

It does seem to have ramped up in the last few years.

According to someone on AW (who heard it on the Team Deakins podcast) Joel Coen’s Macbeth movie is in black and white.
So there’s Cinematography at the very least.

The only category where the Gotham winner also got nominated for an Oscar last year was Best Actor. Would love to see Riz make it.

She’s only been in two movies since 2017 and both of them flopped. So yeah I think it counts as a comeback.

It kind of did, yeah 🙂 but I guess the point is that while a transformative performance often does well awards-wise you still have to cast these roles right.
Look at something like Grace of Monaco – super baity on paper but Kidman was woefully miscast and the movie was awful. Now this is Sorkin so we know at least the script will be better but…[Read more]

Yeah sure but one transformative performance is not like another and Virginia Woolf is a very different person to play than Lucille Ball.
For example – I can’t see Kidman pulling off some of Ball’s signature facial expressions. I’ll be happy to be proved wrong but for now it’s an ‘eh’ for me.

Can’t see it for this role. This casting feels out of place.
Preferred the old title too.

schmids replied to the topic Gucci – Ridley Scott, Lady Gaga, Adam Driver in the forum Movies 1 week, 2 days ago
Ah Camille Cottin is great! More fantastic casting.
The other Gucci family members who are key players in this story are basically all male so it’s not too surprising.
Presumably she’s playing either the ‘personal psychic’ who helped plot the assassination, or the girlfriend Gucci was living with at the time of his death.
Depending on the t…[Read more]

You don’t have to be a fan but it’s daft to pretend he’s not very much respected by the industry.
He won an ‘actor of the decade’ award for the 2010s despite only breaking out in 2012. He’s been nominated for four Emmys and two Oscars. He’s already had a Silver Medallion Telluride tribute.

Even if it goes nowhere else it’s destined to be in the conversation for Costumes and Production Design, potentially Makeup.

Lupita
JLaw
Margot Robbie
Adam Driver
Zendaya is definitely having a breakout moment but she’s been working for a long time so it’s maybe more a culmination?

Nightmare Alley is definitely contending for SAG ensemble but there are so many male performances I’m more interested in for 2022 season than Bradley Cooper. I don’t currently have him getting an individual nod either.
That said he got in for American Sniper so who knows.

I don’t ‘hate’ him but I don’t think he’s as good an actor as others and the industry seem to think. His intense and obvious thirst for it is also really off-putting.
