Is this an unpopular opinion?
Anyway, in the converse, I can usually tell when a non-American takes on an “American” accent and I’m usually not impressed.

I would love it if they hired a legit soprano. Despite the lack of high notes to fit Gertrude Lawrence’s voice, Anna’s songs really soar with a real clean-sounding singer.
Also, I bet you the remake will film “Something Wonderful” much better than the original film did. It was kind of a throwaway song in the original film, but in the Broadway…[Read more]

I think that’s mostly in the forums and social media where PYW is simply being more hyped up by GD users and film twitter than the other films.

I wouldn’t mind a reboot with more actual Asians cast and more songs that were cut from the original show put back in. The last Broadway revival with Ken Watanabe and Kelli O’Hara was absolutely gorgeous.

I like this trend of precursors not making everything super predictable come Oscar time. It should go more in that direction. These awarding bodies should have their own identity outside of being an Oscar predictor.

DiCaprio is kind of like Audrey Hepburn in that both got to work with some of the best directors of their day.

To me, the casting of Glinda is the one that really needs to be right. She actually has the most challenging balancing act both in characterization and in singing. Chenoweth nailing it was why she by far had the best, most glowing reviews out of the original production.

I voted for Close, but I think we’re all lucky to have both with Meryl and a slew of their peers continuing to have careers and doing interesting roles.

I’ve been seeing Kate Winslet everywhere lately campaigning for Ammonite. I wonder if someone is telling her that her chance for a nomination is not as dead as most of us here think. This is the most I’ve seen her campaign in forever. I guess that 5th slot really is up for grabs.
I personally don’t see it happening, but if it does, I have to…[Read more]

I personally think Day, Adams, and Zendaya have equal chances of getting in. Actually, I think Adams is lower because her SAG nomination just seems random and she hasn’t gain much hype or traction from it. Day is making the rounds and speaking eloquently. Zendaya I only have alive because of that CC nomination and the fact she’s being included in…[Read more]

I think Bassett is parodying another poster who kept going on and on about how Viola Davis fans don’t want Andra Day nominated because Day will “split the black vote” and cost Davis the win.

This has no chance of winning anything, but I don’t care. Driveways for anything, especially Hong Chau:
Also, Kajillionaire and Shirley for residual love from Madeline’s Madeline.

From what I heard from people who watched it, the visibility problem is probably what is helping her get nominated. Right now, she’s a lot of hype and people believing she’s Billie Holiday. The small sample of people who I know who have watched the film are ok with leaving her out.

That was the point of my post. They kept the Wilson dialogue in tact because what’s the point in adapting a Wilson play if you’re not going to use his language? It’s the same thing as adapting Shakespeare. The same way Kenneth Branaugh doesn’t edit Shakespeare when he makes his adaptations. His Hamlet is the complete play. Even that famous Baz…[Read more]

I just watched that clip and geez louise. It was even worse watching it than the way you described it. Viola was just talking about how television has a big thing about “likability” (which we all know since it depends on viewers coming back episode after episode and season after season) and just preparing herself for people saying certain…[Read more]

I’m not as convinced that Colman will get BAFTA just because she’s British and a well-known working actress there. They already gave her a film award. I think they may give it to her if her performance in The Father is that undeniable, but from what I hear, it isn’t.
I see the race being Youn, Bakalova, Close, Colman, and Seyfried with maybe a…[Read more]
