Also, Evan Rachel Wood’s comment is absolutely disgusting. I’m so tired of people trying to come across as “woke” every second of every day. There is a time and place for it. Contrary to how she may feel, there’s a whole world out there who adored Kobe Bryant, the basketball player and the person, and are mourning his loss. It’s even more disgusting when it’s known that his teenage daughter was also killed. Not to mention, she’s trying to throw feminism in your face, which I fully support, but she’s also talking about someone’s wife who just lost her husband AND daughter in the same morning. Show some respect or don’t say anything at all. I definitely won’t be supporting or rooting for her in anything she does in the future. I hope Vanessa Bryant and his three other daughters find the strength to get through this unimaginable tragedy and to be able to turn their head to senseless and selfish people like Evan Rachel Wood.
Exactly. Fuck herJanuary 27, 2020 at 10:54 am #1203314674
None tbh. Billie sweeping the big 4 was overkill but I don’t think anyone was truly snubbed this time aroundJanuary 27, 2020 at 9:16 am #1203314485
Filmbros will tune in so I expect an increaseJanuary 27, 2020 at 9:13 am #1203314480
Kinda surprised that Gaga still struggles to win in the GF. Shallow was perfect Grammy catnip
On another note, I like the way her and Bey skipped the ceremony, gave no fuck but still wonJanuary 27, 2020 at 8:33 am #1203314392
The “meme” argument is so fucking dumb honestly. Guess what, literally every hit nowadays is turned into a meme because we live in a meme culture. OTR was no more of a meme song than Bad Guy or Truth Hurts but go off
And what’s wrong with being a “novelty” song ? Bad Guy is “fresh and original” but suddenly the novelty argument is used against OTR, yikes 💀January 26, 2020 at 11:26 pm #1203313788
Billie’s album is definitely edgier than the usual AOTY winnerJanuary 26, 2020 at 11:21 pm #1203313777
I always bet on white when it comes to the Grammys. I also think it’s funny that after months of people saying Lizzo “panders” to white people, we got a nice reminder that she’s black and everybody knows it. All of that love from white people wasn’t enough for a general field win. I predicted a SOTY win a la Single Ladies but I guess you need a ubiquitous song + Beyonce-level respect/time in the industry to pull that off.
Yep. That Pop Solo win was definitely unexpected but then everything went back to the usual Grammy ways
But Lizzo and Lil Nas are nowhere near the most egregious anti-black snubs and I actually appreciate the white artist who beat them so I’m just like… whatever
I just find it weird that 4/10 AOTY winners were black in the 90’s (including three black women like damn) and that black artists seemed to receive much more love back then. I don’t understand why this just doesn’t happen anymore but okJanuary 26, 2020 at 10:10 pm #1203313620
It’s crazy how Ariana was the BB top female artist of 2019, yet her era was so frontloaded that she basically disappeared quickly and couldn’t maintain her momentum like Lizzo and Billie didJanuary 26, 2020 at 10:05 pm #1203313606
So much for the Grammy’s not considering chart success when they hand awards.
They always considered chart success. They love their Year-End #1 albums
I just find the similarities hilarious. The fact that Ariana has been compared to Mariah since the beginning, that both had multiple hits during their era (multiple #1 debuts too 💀), both lost to a newer, edgier female artist who also beat them on the album YE-chart etcJanuary 26, 2020 at 9:56 pm #1203313574
Jagged Little Pill and WWFAWDG : Year-end #1 albums
Daydream and Thank U, Next : Year-end #2
well wellJanuary 26, 2020 at 9:46 pm #1203313538
Probably the only good thing to come out of this.
And homegirl really hasn’t won shit since that garbage AOTY win in 2016. Same year they gave BNA to fucking Meghan Trainor while Kendrick Lamar and Frank Ocean were previously deemed unworthy and lost to generic acts. What a trash yearJanuary 26, 2020 at 9:45 pm #1203313536
Ok that’s a wrap for Ms Eilish career. I don’t see her ever topping this era. Every new era moving forward will be seen as a flop because it won’t be as big.
We don’t know that. It’s not like her album went Diamond or something, she can definitely pull those numbers againJanuary 26, 2020 at 9:41 pm #1203313518
Cuz I Love You had acclaim. Not massive acclaim ala Lemonade or DAMN but it still held its own. I don’t think it was heavily racial as it has been in other years but it was definitely laziness. And the standards for AOTY keeps changing yearly, conveniently. You need critics and overdue factor to win one year (Beck) without any big sales, but then the year after, the exact opposite happens (Taylor). Kacey Musgraves didn’t need big sales (and she benefitted from it being a weak year) to win but now Billie wins with big sales being a factor.
Tbh Billie hit all the boxes. Beck, Taylor and Kacey had the most discutable wins
