Are we forgetting this is a business also and that this might be offensive but “Blacks” don’t sell a lot of box office in China..Sorry but it’s a fact. That’s a big market, Why Michael Bay will never have a black lead in a Transformers film. Asians are as racist as you can get and they don’t care what you think, It’s still very old school those countries like China and India, which is why they have there own huge film industries with ONLY their races starring and making those films. India goes as far to just remake american films with just bollywood actors and actresses cause why should we give our money to to the white people and we can make our own version…Stepmom..lol
Not saying there isn’t racism in the American film industry but it’s not as clear cut as “we don’t like “blacks / ethnic” people. Money is a big reason also… It’s all about the Benjamin!!!
ReplyJanuary 14, 2016 at 5:53 pm #208747The Academy will never embrace a movie full of black, Mexicans, Asians or any other minority unless they feel like they need to or if it is a period piece/biopic. Honestly, would they have nominated The Big Short if that was just a cast full of Latinos? Or Black people? Or Asians? I’m not saying they are blatantly racist but they just don’t connect with movies that surround different races other than white.
Although Mexicans have won the last two best director awards and most likely going 3 years in a row
ReplyJanuary 25, 2015 at 9:18 am #158229It looks like this is hitting “passion of the christ” territory at the box office and what seemed to be a great marketing plan by WB for the Oscars is really backfiring with all the negative backlash.. or you can just call it the truth?
The comparisons to “Passion” comes from people are going to this film that never really been to a multiplex before, red states over and over, military familes in large groups. I was going to see “Wild” for the 3rd time ( really loved the movie sue me) and the flock of groups going into American Sniper was blowing my mind and the kicker is… I’m in Canada!
I was thinking at first (as i mentioned in a previous post) that this could be good enough to sway Best Picture to “Sniper” but with all the negative press and more details of the REAL Kyle comes out, I’m going the lean towards “Sniper” getting ZERO Oscars for the night.
ReplyJanuary 17, 2015 at 4:11 pm #158194
I mentioned this on thursday and i’m going to say it here… I’m betting on Boyhood getting upset by American Sniper for Best Picture…Linkletter will win Best Director but lose Best Picture. With recent Box Office for American Sniper there will be a huge push for this film to Academy members to award this film Best Picture !!!
Nah, Boyhood will win Best Picture. But what the box office will do for American Sniper is get Bradley Cooper to win Best Actor.
Since he’s not been in the competition for all the precursor awards, this is the first opportunity for voters who loved his performance to vote for him (and there are many people who loved his performance)
I’ve been thinking this too. God, I hope I’m wrong…
I don’t know…I doubt Best Actor for Cooper… He will be awarded the Best Picture Oscar because he produced American Sniper, Like Brad Pitt last year… Boyhood will clean up at Indepentdent Sprit , win Best Picture the night before but American Sniper will steal it at the Academy, Linkletter will best Best Director… This is the Academy thing now, Splitting Director and Picture
