In My Blood isn’t a threat. The Middle is one of the frontrunners along with Shallow.
In My Blood isn’t a threat but I doubt it’d get zero votes, and the votes it will be getting would be from Shallow’s chunk of votes. I frankly think that Brandi will take SOTY, the song is impeccably written and is leaps and bounds ahead of any other song nominated, other than that I think the “country” community is going to stand behind her, along with most of the rock voters voting for her, which should be enough for her to win.December 9, 2018 at 12:36 pm #1202695451
I think something that works against Shallow is that it has two other pop songs in SOTY competing for the pop vote which will cause tje votes to split. Other than that, I don’t think there’s anything that’s stopping Shallow from winning.December 9, 2018 at 12:34 pm #1202695443
Popularity still does matter to an extent. 13,000+ people are voting. The more familiar your song is, the more likely you are to win. And traditionally, it’s more likely for hits to gain traction in Record and Song. Also, SZA was the most nominated female artist last year and won nothing. Jay-Z was the most nominated artist overall and won nothing. I don’t think Brandi is out of the race completely, and I think she has a good shot at AOTY, but I don’t see her winning in the major song categories.
I don’t think the SZA comparison fits with Brandi. SZA had 4 of her nominations in the genre categories, and only one in the GF and that too with BNA. Brandi on the other hand has gotten across the board nominations in the GF in all the categories she was nominated for. That surely does make a HUGE difference.
I feel the popularity thing hardly does matter if it even does. If there are 8 songs nominated, I do think the voters would give a listen to the one or two songs they haven’t heard. I’m not saying they HAVE to, but I do think they will. Moreover, didn’t that Robert Plant and Alison Krauss song win ROTY in 2009? I know the situation is not comparable, but I think Brandi could potentially win in one of the song categories.December 9, 2018 at 12:17 pm #1202695410
As far as Rap/Sung is concerned, even I think All the Stars has a lead over This is America. But frankly speaking, I can see it going to any of the two.December 9, 2018 at 12:13 pm #1202695401
“The Joke” is definitely a better written song and performance than “Shallow.” I would accept an upset from “The Joke.” It most likely has a better chance at SOTY.
That is what I think. I don’t see how popularity comes into play. It would’ve come into play for the nomination but not for the final round of voting. Also, it helps that she is the most nominated female of the night, she is bound to gain traction and support. I think that coupled with the support she will get from the country voters would be enough to push her to win at least one of the categories.December 9, 2018 at 12:08 pm #1202695389
I think Brandi Carlile might take one of the GF categories she’s nominated for. I’m thinking SOTY, because she obviously has the “country” votes in the bag but also with these nominations, she’s bound to get new support from the members who otherwise would’ve never heard of her. Part of the reason why I think this is because there are a lot of songs from the same genre in those categories that might cause a splitting of the votes, while with Brandi, there isn’t really a pick that’s either from her genre or remotely resembles her. I can see her winning maybe SOTY, maybe even ROTY.December 8, 2018 at 2:03 am #1202694048
It’s Taylor’s to lose.December 8, 2018 at 2:02 am #1202694047
I think The Joke will take this. Not only is Brandi bound to get the passion votes, she’ll also take the country votes and will most likely get some votes from people who discover her after she got nominated. She has a really good chance. I don’t see Shallow because there’s The Middle amd In My Blood that will eat away some pop votes.December 7, 2018 at 3:47 pm #1202693707
Fun fact: Linda Perry is the first woman nominated for Grammy Producer of the Year category since 2004.December 7, 2018 at 8:05 am #1202693069
Well. Carrie Underwood has never been nominated for an album so that’s not really surprising.
But why Kelsea Ballerini tho? Her album was a shit show, her singkes didn’t perform as well as her singles from her last album did. Really weird tbh. Also, Carrie failed to get a single nomination, not even in the performance category, that’s even more surprising.December 7, 2018 at 8:01 am #1202693060
I JUST REALISED THEY GAVE KELSEA BALLERINI A NOMINATION OVER CARRIE UNDERWOOD. What the..December 7, 2018 at 7:55 am #1202693046
No way. They need to keep the panels. The general field nominations this year are great. Imagine the shit that would have been nominated had it just been popular-vote.
I agree. The nominations are very interesting and in my opinion, give a true representation of the music industry this year.December 7, 2018 at 7:53 am #1202693041
Kacey or Brandi or Drake, in my opinion.December 7, 2018 at 7:51 am #1202693025
I have actually come to like the General Field nominations. The thing I’m worried about is the ceremony lol. Literally no artist with a huge name is nominated in the marquee categories. And I’m pretty sure no one wants to see my girl Brandie give a performance. It’s going to be a mess.
