Florence was completely snubbed
i feel like she got replaced by wet leg in the voters minds :/
ReplyJanuary 11, 2023 at 8:24 pm #1205238070ooh yeah if it didnt chart, little simz is out of contention iirc
ReplyJanuary 11, 2023 at 8:58 am #1205236264Is Little Simz album eligible? I feel like if it was she could be a contender for British AOTY
I also wonder if they will treat Florence as a Pop or Rock/Alt act, hopefully the latter.
ReplyNovember 21, 2022 at 3:28 pm #1205163032I’m trying to figure out FATM placement in the alt performance category I thought previously that she got the nom because Björk didn’t submit anything, so she could grab those pop enthusiast voters, but on second thought, it’s odd that she didn’t get a nomination at the album category while Arcade Fire didn’t get one in the performance category. If Arctic Monkeys had released an album in time for submission, then I believe they would have the spot AF currently upholds.
I can’t figure it out either, I wonder if Florence and AF were splitting votes in both categories? and Florence just got a few more in Performance and AF got a few more in album? Or maybe voters felt like DF was too poppy for the category but that King the song fit in Alternative?
In any case, I’d love her to win but I’d imagine that since she only got into one of two categories she doesn’t have much of a chance. Though I do wonder how much her being an older but never awarded act will factor in, since people seeing her on the ballot might be tempted to vote for her to make up for past snubs or something.
ReplyNovember 16, 2022 at 6:35 pm #1205157026Also I am not surprised by FATM snub in the album category I don’t think it was smart to change the usual pop field for an alt album submission. That category has always been an odd one out, and she always struggled with both rock and pop fields, a mixed field logically would just make her chances of a nom – win getting lower. She should win tho
She’s been nominated in both rock and pop before though? She had no chance of a pop nomination this time around so I think switching her to alt made total sense
ReplyNovember 15, 2022 at 5:02 pm #1205155141sad Florence didn’t make it into album but glad she at least made it into song!
ReplyNovember 15, 2022 at 4:43 am #1205152259went to check Florence’s page and noticed that they’re missing one of her nominations? What Kind of Man was nominated for best rock song and best rock performance! Anyways
ReplyNovember 14, 2022 at 8:23 pm #1205151964does anyone know what order the noms get announced in?

Mitski
and then also mentioned: “Other honorable mentions include the Smile, Snail Mail, Turnstile, Måneskin, King Princess, Soccer Mommy, Beach House, Finneas and Black Country, New Road.”
https://variety.com/2022/music/news/grammy-spotlight-rock-alternative-artists-to-watch-1235406049/I guess I’m just wondering how much weight these industry pubs have in these sorts of things or if their lists say anything about who does and does not have a reasonable shot at these awards (again, just given the fact that they’re industry publications) or if they’re just pure guesses.
ReplyOctober 21, 2022 at 8:00 pm #1205128498How is “Patience” even eligible lol
agreed, what the hell. wasn’t it released in 2019??
ReplyOctober 21, 2022 at 7:58 pm #1205128496Do Variety and HDD’s predictions historically mean anything in the Rock/Alt fields? Was surprised at what they picked/left out from their predictions
ReplyOctober 20, 2022 at 8:08 pm #1205127375I feel like mitski peaked sometime in between be the cowboy and laurel hell, which isn’t ideal timing re: grammys. I could see her still getting love for LH but since it wasn’t nearly the behemoth that ‘be the cowboy’ was, i can also see it getting ignored.
ReplyOctober 17, 2022 at 8:44 pm #1205124419I hope you are correct. Florence Welch has been overdue for her first Grammy for at least 12 years
fingers crossed!
ReplyOctober 15, 2022 at 11:45 am #1205121845Looks like these are Black Country, New Road’s submissions: Concorde: Best Alternative Music Performance, Best Music Video Ants From Up There: Best Alternative Music Album, Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package Best New Artist
Do we know which other artists submitted to ‘Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package’? I feel like I haven’t seen many other mentions of this category in this thread. Do artists submit to this or do the people in charge of designing the packages submit them? (I remember Florence’s third album was nominated in this category but I don’t think the nomination was credited to her)
