Trailer is just okay but Carell looks great. I’m in.June 11, 2018 at 8:58 am #1202562936
Now that the SAG stats have been broken (BP/SAG ensemble and Best Actress), I’m looking forward to an unpredictable, exciting season ahead.June 11, 2018 at 5:10 am #1202562795
LLL is on another level altogether and shouldn’t be compared to ASIB. Maybe Walk The Line would be more appropriate.June 10, 2018 at 8:10 pm #1202562574
Kidman better focus on getting the nod for Destroyer if she wants her #2. Plus, Boy Erased comes with a bunch of red flags with re-shoots, underwhelming screen test reviews, script reviews and then being dumped in ghost-town September.June 10, 2018 at 3:01 am #1202562019
She is someone who is extremely overrated. And these comparisons with Kate Winslet are insane. Kate Winslet was an international superstar while Ronan is someone not many people know outside of these online forums. She is the Glenn Close of this generation.
And the fact that there are people who think that she was “denied” for Lady Bird is just ridiculous. McDormand’s performance was miles ahead of hers. I personally think she was 4th/5th in that mix.June 4, 2018 at 7:45 am #1202558596
Wait, is Weisz going lead? Cause if she is, she could end up being a de facto winner in this year’s seemingly weak Best Actress race. But if she’s not, I don’t think either of them is winning. Idk, ofc saying that with caution. Hopefully Amy Adams (Backseat) does not disappoint.
From what I heard, Weisz is lead and Stone is borderline co-lead. Stone could be submitted in supporting with Colman. I’d say Stone would get in before Colman but if they both get in, Colman could pose a threat to Adams (I heard Lynne Cheney irl is as vanilla as they come).June 4, 2018 at 7:23 am #1202558562
Weisz and Stone are coming for blood.
Too bad they ain’t winning.
Maybe not the Oscars 😉
They both could still pick up some precursors (wouldn’t that make the race more interesting?) And while I understand that Stone shouldn’t be getting a second this fast (just hoping for her third nod if she’s worthy), Weisz is completely different case.June 3, 2018 at 8:07 pm #1202558263
Someone (tyjagi) from AW has read the 1st revision 2015 draft. Just thought I’d share it here too.
“Won’t say much, but script is exactly what you’d expect a Yorgos Lanthimos period piece to be like. Very bawdy costume drama. A comedic King’s Speech. “Cunt” and multiple variations of it (“cuntstruck”) is used more times than it was in Three Billboards. And of course a handjob and lots of masturbation. Lots of deadpan jokes about rape and prostitution. Pigeon hunting and cockfighting. Not inaccessible, though. The sexual content isn’t explicit as this is a more obscured, dialogue-driven film. Although a war is brewing behind the scenes, this is a relatively low-stakes and straightforward examination of the love triangle between Weisz, Stone, Colman and the web of lies sprung from it.
Anne (Colman) is the Queen, but she is very impish, insecure, vulnerable. Frankly incompetent of rule. Sarah (Weisz) is basically the Cheney of it all– consoling and pulling the strings. They have an odd, sexual relationship. Weisz encourages Colman to continue announcing battles despite the logistics of war being too costly for the weak economy. Colman would prefer a peace treaty but gives into Weisz. Weisz is married to head of the military. Stone is Abigal, Weisz’s cousin. Stone is a very open, but deceitful and manipulative character. She begs Weisz for a servant position, then slowly begins to pry herself into Colman’s life. Stone seduces Colman which irritates Weisz, thus causing friction. This very odd dynamic descends into a screwball frenzy by the third act. It gets extremely broad as Stone and Weisz begin fighting for the queen’s attention. Some of these antics will give you the idea of Step Brothers or a studio romantic comedy as directed by Lanthimos.
Weisz personally reminded me of both Beckinsale in Love and Friendship + Manville in Phantom Thread. Icy. Threatening. Towering. The majority of her dialogue are wicked one-liners. Despicable character (she has violent outbursts) as she does not like children and utters lines such as “Does being romantic mean we are to suspend our logic and judgment?” I think if Stone didn’t win for La La Land, she’d be a serious threat for Supporting Actress. Her and Colman will both go Supporting. Abigal is a very open, animated young woman– a typical Stone role but with a darker edge (she has a nude scene). She gets abused quite frequently as a servant (her backstory includes her being sold into prostitution), but triumphs with her charm. Colman is the Queen, and she’s a very sluggish, messy woman. Blurry vision, bad case of gout, usually confined to a wheelchair.”

Exactly. That means Fox probably saving a couple movies for Nov/Dec releases as their main Oscar vehicles. Like I previously said.
Since when is an October release bad? Many Oscar winning movies have opened in that month
Stop being triggered for no reason. Never said October release is bad. I just said Fox MIGHT save one or two movies for Nov/Dec release IF they are to follow last year’s game plan a la TSOW and 3B.
Don’t know how I can put it in simpler way.March 17, 2018 at 6:31 pm #1202514984
But if Fox is playing the game the same way like last year, this film is this year’s BOTS (a Sept release)
Release Date is October 19

McCarthy is about to surprise us all. But if Fox is playing the game the same way like last year, this film is this year’s BOTS (a Sept release).
Fox might be saving The Favourite, Old Man And The Gun or The Aftermath for Nov/Dec release a la TSOW and 3B.
