AoTY win is not happening. RoTY and SoTY win for DL? I don’t think that song is, for industry voters, as good/special as Royals, Stay With Me, or Bad Guy. It’ll be popular enough to get nominated but the song is generic.
Right now only BNA and Pop Solo wins seem very possible.
This thread is NOT about if Black Panther or any film DESERVES its accolades. There’s a difference between “if it deserves the nom” and “if it’s a political nom.”
Black Panther deserves its BP nom for being an iconic black-cast film (this is already a political reason), but the nom 100% benefits MUCH from political reasons as a MCU movie.
Marcus.H replied to the topic Oscars outrage: Who gave the WORST Best Actress performance? in the forum Movies 1 month, 1 week ago
When I saw this thread, I knew exactly Frances Mcdormand would be mentioned by you, who posted hate comments in every possible place, and even created a whole thread in the forum trying to dismiss her victory.
If she hadn’t won this 3rd win, I doubt she would have been hated so much by some of you now. Ironically, her weakest winning…[Read more]
True. Folklore has already taken all the attention from this Folklore/Evermore era. I doubt Willow as a song will show up anywhere. Like Folklore, Evermore will only be competitive in album categories. None of the songs really stands out (Cardigan is a first single so…)
The last memorably great song from Billie Eillish for me is “Everything I Wanted.”
All her recent songs, including There I Am and the 007 one, are all generic/forgettable for me. I was hyped up for this new era because of that 15s snippet, but then “Your Power” was released, which is so weak as a single.
So many top hits now are meh to me:
Deja Vu, Peaches, Save Your Tears, Astronaut in the Ocean, Kiss Me More (Doja Cat), Therefore I Am, 34+35, every Drake song
The only ones that I like:
Leave the Door Open
Blinding Lights (it’s still at #10+)
Without You (by The Kid LAROI)
The new…[Read more]
Marcus.H replied to the topic Gucci (Ridley Scott, Lady Gaga, Adam Driver) Part 2 in the forum Movies 1 month, 2 weeks ago
It’s amazing that Ridley Scott got one career-best-level film from each decade.
Alien in 70s
Blade Runner in 80s
Thelma & Louise in 90s
Gladiator in 00s
The Martian in 10s
Which film will be the one in 20s? Let’s see…
Marcus.H replied to the topic Which was a bigger upset: Hopkins 2020 or Colman 2018? in the forum Movies 1 month, 2 weeks ago
We had heard so many anonymous voters choosing Hopkins over Boseman so it’s the idea that everyone had been suspicious about but had had in minds.
I can still feel how people were surprised at Colman’s win over Close in that winning video. Truly amazing!
Marcus.H replied to the topic Does Frances McDormand deserve 3 Oscars like Meryl Streep and Daniel Day-Lewis? in the forum Movies 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Yes, she does.
And lol suddenly these haters are bringing out all the other nominees who were even #3 or #4 of winning chances in that year’s race (e.g. Robbie, Ronan.) You guys need to get a drink and get over for your favs and for the hate against an actress who works so hard and actually doesn’t care these awards as you do.
How many more…[Read more]
I giggled every time somebody said she won because voters are so lazy that they copied whoever won BAFTAs. That’s not how human minds work lol. Too many conspiracy theories from some of you…
That’s true. As international audience, we really don’t care about the black/white issues or the overdue narrative. We just voted for what we love or think is the best in that category. The different results between SAG and BAFTAs/Oscars told it all.
Accusing the industry for not casting more black actors for leading roles in major films is…[Read more]
One important lesson: QUALITY MATTERS.
See how Hopkins survived the Sony Picture Classic campaign and how Mcdormand won with the best performance among 5 even if she’s won 2.
One another lesson: People are tired of award-bait films.
Trial of Chicago 7 is the most popular BP nominee for GP and is far from a bad film, but look how it ended up in…[Read more]
Katharine Hepburn and Frances Mcdormand shared a lot of similarities.
1. Both won 3+ Best Leading Actress (1 in early years, other 2 in decades later)
2. Both have partners powerful in film industry
3. Both are known for playing strong female characters
4. Both are “I don’t care about publicity” kind of actresses
5. Both have unique and…[Read more]
