Saying Black women aren’t getting systematically excluded when there is literally only one Black woman that has won ever is actually a crazy statement. Like obviously there is more factors and nuance to it, but you’re just being blindly ignorant if you cannot see the mistreatment Black actresses face by the Academy.
ReplyJanuary 24, 2023 at 2:27 pm #1205264774The fact that Chinonye Chukwu’s last two films (Till and Clemency) both had black women who delivered some of the best performances of the last decade (Danielle Deadwyler and Alfre Woodard) and both were snubbed… a literal crime
January 24, 2023 at 7:25 am #1205262462I thought Deadwyler was ok. I’d replace Michelle Williams with her but The Fabelmans was too strong a film to be dismissed. I didn’t think Deadwyler missing out what a major snub either way. Cate, Michelle (Yeoh), Andrea were clearly the BEST of this group and anyone who actually saw To Leslie instead of just whining about its inclusion would know that. The rest are all contending for the last 2 spots. Michelle Williams couldn’t miss because of the love for The Fabelmans. So it leaves the other 3 WOC to contend for the last spot. Not everything is about race. Get over it.
Danielle acted circles around Adrea and was certainly comparable (imo better) with Blanchett so shut up. Race does matter as Deadwyler gave the performance of the year in a baity role and still got snubbed
ReplyJanuary 24, 2023 at 5:58 am #1205261229Black women will never get their dues here thats really so crazy. Danielle Deadwyler gave the performance of the YEAR, and got snubbed because a bunch of white celebrities wanted to push one of their own. Its shameful.

January 13, 2023 at 6:33 am #1205240927Even if TWL is moved, Claire Danes won’t win lol Niecy Nash will
ReplyJanuary 10, 2023 at 7:32 pm #1205233395Even if TWL is moved to Drama, Coolidge is definitely competitive for the win, her hype is ummatched!

December 27, 2022 at 2:16 pm #1205211151While I am absolutely a fan of BTS, my reasons for thinking My Universe will win is 100% based on logic. Radio spins and charting position is completely irrelevant when it comes to the Grammys. The biggest factor after being nominated is the voters knowing who you are and thinking you deserve to win. Last year BTS’s performance was the most talked about. Voters are going to see their name and remember that performance. So yes, it will help them get more votes from those who end up voting on name recognition. Coldplay is also well known. My Universe is going to get the name recognition votes this time, which I believe will be enough to give it the win.
BTS was the most talked about performance because of their fandom… that’s what you BTS fans don’t get. Everything they do is in a silo, it never makes any impact or noise to literally anyone else out of their fandom. I, along with most people, could not tell you a single thing about their performance last year. BTS definitely has a massive amount of stans, but that won’t do them any good garnering industry support. If My Universe wins (which I highly doubt it will), it is certainly Coldplay’s impact who have proven their industry support countless times.
