There’s no way Levitating is losing Pop Duo
March 24, 2021 at 12:57 pm #1204155771Adele vs. Silk Sonic would be fuuuuuuum
March 23, 2021 at 11:30 am #1204153222“Shawn deserves nothing with that awful album, again Sam’s Love Goes is ahead of in BB 200 and and outsold in the USA, Sam deserves that spot more..but Sam always gets screwed“ – @denzel_mcconico (OneAndOnly) The delusion. Wonder would also be charting a lot higher than Love Goes if Mendes had added his 2019 singles on it, that were bigger than Sam’s 2019 singles. Sam being #151 isn’t much better. Either way, Sam Smith is not happening.
Shawn’s album is one of the biggest bombs in recent memory. It’s doing worse than Witness by Katy did and he was coming off Senorita lmao
March 23, 2021 at 11:24 am #1204153202Justin will probably submit Holy to Pop Duo/Group (if it’s allowed in since Chance’s terrible verse is rap), Lonely or Anyone to Pop Solo and Justice to BPVA
March 16, 2021 at 1:11 pm #1204138978FN is way better album from production point of view and it has actually 2 big US hits(DSN and Levitating), also during final voting, Levitating was rising the charts, while Golden flopped.
Both feature great production IMO
Fine Line has 4 Platinum/Multiplatinum songs and 4 Gold songs.
Future Nostalgia has 2 Platinum/Multiplatinum songs and that’s it.
ReplyMarch 16, 2021 at 12:51 pm #1204138929Watermelon Sugar and DSN were about the same-sized hit in the US. Fine Line is much bigger than Future Nostalgia, though
ReplyMarch 16, 2021 at 12:45 pm #1204138910Disclaimer that I know all mainstream artists get a ton of money invested in them, especially people like Harry The Weeknd Taylor Megan etc. But is it just me or is the money they put on Dua astronomical? Is it worth it to have the next big pop star? I guess it is since execs know way more than me in terms of investments, but it just seems overkill, and though the results are great, maybe the ROI isn’t exactly that stellar.
Dua is forced onto an insane amount of Spotify playlists, performs on ever TV channel, her singles get tons of remixes, her albums re-released, etc. She has a team that knows how to drive up consumption and really maximize Dua’s exposure, whether it be radio or streaming services. They know how this works. That’s why I’m confident they walked away from Sunday very disappointed/angry.
ReplyMarch 16, 2021 at 12:11 pm #1204138816Dua Lipa’s team did everything perfect
They worked with all the best of the best, had one of the most extensive campaign of recent years… Despite Fine Line being the bigger album, they switched up Future Nostalgia in BPVA because it was the one with an AOTY nod, secured POTY. Put Harry in Pop Solo, leaving obvious winner, Don’t Start Now because they needed FN for Pop Album for the AOTY. What should’ve got ROTY was Savage, it had a perfect sweep on Rap Song, Performance. Fiona Apple has FULL Alt/Rock genre support was blocked in the GF as well.
We obviously do not know what is going on with the GF. Very weird. Maybe more transparency.
Dua’s team campaigned HARD over the last few months. They wanted a GF win badly. And you could see it on her face when she lost that they were not pleased.
ReplyMarch 16, 2021 at 12:07 pm #1204138798I like Watermelon Sugar more than Don’t Start Now as well. If they gave Pop Vocal Album to Dua, then I don’t mind this going to Harry.
They could have also given BPVA to Harry and this Dua, and I wouldn’t have minded.
ReplyMarch 15, 2021 at 10:36 am #1204135193I’m thinking BPVA will end up being something like this: 1. Positions 2. Evermore 3. Justice 4. Wonder 5. The Art of Starting Over (Demi’s new album) But if Billie releases, it’s probably game over for everyone
God, this really shows how crappy music has been since September. I only like evermore out of these. And the 2 male albums are putrid (don’t need to listen to Justice to know this)
March 15, 2021 at 9:19 am #1204134696Lover had no smash hits. It was a bad album tbh.
I don’t think it was a bad album, just bloated. It really could have benefitted with 3-4 songs cut
ReplyMarch 15, 2021 at 8:49 am #1204134438Gagas cards just havent aligned. I think with the right project she could appeal to a wider group of people. She won in the dance field, traditional pop and soundtrack categories. And she can definetely appeal to a wide age group of people.
Shallow/ASIB was her shot at the general field.
ReplyMarch 15, 2021 at 8:27 am #1204134232AOTY: Taylor > Jacob > Dua > HAIM > Coldplay > Post > Pumas > Jhene
ROTY: Billie > Megan > Beyonce > Dua > Post > DaBaby > Doja > Pumas
SOTY: H.E.R. > Billie > Taylor > Beyonce > Dua > Post > Roddy > Julia
BNA: Megan > Phoebe > Kaytandra > Doja > Ingrid > Chika > NoahThat’s my guess
ReplyMarch 15, 2021 at 8:22 am #1204134193Taylor isn’t ahead of Gaga in Grammy wins count. Maybe if Evermore wins a few grammy’s this year she could pull ahead. But as of now she hasn’t yet. I was only talking about Grammy wins count. I don’t think Gaga is a “bigger” musician than Taylor personally.
Gaga is ahead in pop, but it’s clear Taylor has much more cross-genre appeal. Gaga has never won a general field category and hasn’t even been nominated for AOTY since 2012.
3 AOTY wins, 11 Grammys total > 0 General Field wins, 12 Grammys total
