Wolf Alice have been nominated for Best Rock Performance before, they’re definitely strong contenders.June 4, 2021 at 10:34 am #1204286396
Malay, a producer of the record, called it a ‘new age stoner’ album and said the genre was going to be psychedelic rock. Radio station hosts + insiders which leaked the arrival of this song also said it was classified as psychedelic rock. As to the colours, I believe I read somewhere it was going to be ‘acid green and turquoise’, which lines up to the Malay saying ‘get your acid and weed ready’ (lmao) and her mom’s Instagram bio also says turqoise (which could have been a hint all along, just like the pictures of the sun. She loves teasing lorde fans). Anyway, while non of this is 100% confirmed, I believe Malay since he directly worked on the album. I’m expecting it to be trippy and weird as fuck and im here for it.
I don’t think Malay ever said this about the record or even described the genre. IIRC, he just mentioned that he’d worked with her again, and because of the pandemic + her vision, it could take a while for the music to surface.April 30, 2021 at 4:48 pm #1204237171
I’m sure pop stans on Twitter are excited, though.April 3, 2021 at 4:02 pm #1204173987
it has a different demographic, people who watch Olivia’s show are a lot older than people who watched Hannah Montana, Sonny With A Chance, or Wizards of Waverly Place. It also has a more mature content
This, and she isn’t forced to act in lame Disney Channel movies like past Disney stars were.
People also underestimate the difference between past Disney stars being shepherded away to sign bad deals with Hollywood Record while they made music designed for a young audience, and Olivia’s music career having nothing to do with Disney since she’s signed to Interscope.April 3, 2021 at 3:59 pm #1204173985
Olivia isn’t comparable to past Disney stars because she isn’t signed to Hollywood Records and her show is on Disney +.
She will probably get into BPVA, BNA, one of ROTY/SOTY, and BPSP.March 11, 2021 at 1:21 pm #1204109510
Following through on his word means there may actually be serious efforts to reform the Grammys and introduce transparency in the nominations process.
Though unfortunately, the likelihood of the Grammys caring about two black men rejecting their platform (Ocean and The Weeknd) is slim. If any of the white men or women who won AOTY in the last decade did this there would definitely have been reforms announced ASAP.February 6, 2021 at 8:32 pm #1204027674
People here defending an awards body that has a totally convoluted and opaque process when it comes to nominations are total weirdos.February 6, 2021 at 10:14 am #1204026893
Olivia Rodrigo will be releasing an album soon.
She’s probably getting into all the four main categories.January 11, 2021 at 5:17 pm #1203978060
I’m not sure Rodrigo will make it into Pop Solo.
Don’t forget Adele, Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, etc. could potentially release before the eligibility window ends as well.
People in another thread where saying Rodrigo wouldn’t get into BNA because the Grammys like to nominate artists when they have albums out to prove they aren’t flukes?
But in the last two years, Lil Nas X, CHIKA, and Noah Cyrus have received BNA nominations with nothing but EPs out. I can’t see a world where she doesn’t get the BNA nomination. BNA + SOTY seem realistic for her right now (unless Interscope are so taken by the hype they tell her to expand her EP into an album instead).January 10, 2021 at 10:18 pm #1203975522
There have been rumors Adele and Rihanna will release albums this year + we know Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Lizzo, and others in the pop field are likely to return with new albums (there’s also Ariana Grande who has already released an album in this eligibility period).
I think Rodrigo will certainly be nominated for BNA (a singer-songwriter who has a hit song is Grammy catnip), and probably Pop Solo (though this very much depends on how the field shakes out). The Grammys also love to over reward these young stars when they breakout. If she releases an album, she’ll definitely be in Pop Vocal Album. But it seems like it’s just an EP — still, if the big artists go missing again, don’t be surprised if her EP ends up there.
And no, it’s not too early to claim this and it’s not excessive, either. She’s a popular Disney star who writes her own songs and is possibly getting a #1 debut in both the US and UK with her debut single. Without any radio. Her label obviously didn’t expect her to be this big and she’s going to get all of their attention now.January 10, 2021 at 10:06 pm #1203975509
Hopefully, The Weeknd does not come through with a thoroughly mediocre album by the deadline to take SZA’s grammy. One can hope.January 10, 2021 at 9:13 pm #1203975480
1) Industry plant almost always has sexist connotations. How many male artists are ever referred to as “industry plants”?
2) If the definition of an “industry plant” is someone who receives a massive push — then all of GD’s faves are arguably bigger “industry plants”. On Spotify, Rodrigo’s song was 15th on New Music Friday. She was not added to TTH until today and is only at #23 despite having the #1 song on Spotify. She has not received any support from radio, nor did she have a radio deal go out with the song. All of this song’s success is organic support from TikTok and word-of-mouth.
3) Rodrigo does not fall under the correct definition of an “industry plant” either – i.e. someone who presents themselves as being original and DIY, but actually has the backing of powerful forces such as a major label. She is openly signed to a major label (Interscope) and came from 2 Disney shows.
4) She probably has BNA 2022 locked up and y’all will have to deal with that. Her EP is also going to be huge.August 6, 2020 at 7:44 pm #1203631522
The irony and lack of self-awareness when you sport a Phoebe Bridgers avi but try and trash Fiona Apple any chance you get.
