I agree Marco. The romance ends and Elio’s heart is broken.
The key difference between the film and the book, as has been said ad nauseum lately, is that the book explores the characters beyond the 1980s. It’s not about the immediate heartbreak, it’s about how the relationship affected their lives long afterwards. I think a further examination of these characters is therefore possible, but by what Guadagnino is describing, he would necessarily have to diverge from the book to get the story he’s implying.January 31, 2018 at 9:21 am #1202484265
Guadagnino has talked extensively about turning this into his Before Sunrise/Antoine Doinel series. I don’t know if that will work, but I’d be curious to see.December 21, 2017 at 1:40 pm #1202446224
I think Cher is only appearing in flashbacks with young Meryl Streep played by Lily James.
Well the trailer has her with Amanda who is in the “present” storyline.
The only possible explanation is that Cher is actually 97 years old.December 20, 2017 at 11:08 am #1202445389
A poster has been released, and the trailer will debut tomorrow…
I can’t explain why I’m looking forward to this movie so much but I am.
