I agree with the common Robert Pattinson choice here and I think Kristen Stewart will get a nomination. Funny how the 2 people stars of the Twilight saga are now being considered great performers.February 25, 2020 at 4:42 pm #1203360433
Seeing some of the opinion on La La Land here makes me afraid it’s going to get backlash again and a repeat of 2017 academy awards will see its fruition. =/.February 22, 2020 at 2:35 pm #1203356780
I’m really hoping to see La La Land snag some awards! =DFebruary 20, 2020 at 6:10 am #1203353441
I’m new here. I was glancing over the movie section and noticed that topics had parts 1,2,3, etc. Sometimes people might want to reference an earlier post but they would have to go back to a previous “part” to get this information. Has there ever been discussions to improve the forum so a topic can run on for more than 30 pages or so? The Original Post of each topic can also provide relevant information. This would also cut down on the total number of topics too.
Also an auto-save function would be great in case someone is typing a long essay in a post and suddenly he/she accidentally hits the backspace button or close the browser.February 16, 2020 at 11:11 pm #1203349155
Dune. Some stories are best left for the TV format.February 13, 2020 at 9:57 pm #1203346416
Do people love Zhao Shuzhen just because they have no experience with Chinese grandmas? That performance was unremarkable to me. And Awkwafina was in the same state the entire movie, which also just went in circles.
i didn’t find the movie remarkable at all. the acting performance wasn’t particularly strong. the story wasn’t gripping. but it’s also probably, like you said, because movie goers who saw the film have not seen many performances of asians in cinema.February 13, 2020 at 7:46 pm #1203346335
I see nobody talking that much about “Dark Waters,” at least when it comes to year-end awards.
the film was scary and i learned something from it. If “Spotlight” can win best picture, surely this can at least warrant some recognition of some sort.
Anne Hathaway and Mark Ruffalo are great in the film.
When you have a movie like “Parasite” that talks about social class win BP. Surely “Dark Waters” would resonate with the same audience as it’s about the same issue in another breath.
and it’s based off real life events.February 13, 2020 at 7:30 pm #1203346325

I’ve watched video and read posts/articles talking about how great of a movie year 2019 was.
While there were a lot of good films released in 2019, I don’t feel like a lot of them will be remembered except maybe Parasite.
1917 might be referenced as the 1 shot movie as well; a technical achievement.February 9, 2020 at 8:26 pm #1203340128

“Natalie Portman wears @Dior Haute Couture on the #Oscars red carpet, with a cape embroidered with the names of all of the female directors who were snubbed of an Oscars nomination. http://vogue.cm/KJIk7aL”
Snubbed female directors embroidered on Natalie Portman’s cape:
Wang (The Farewell)
Gerwig (Little Women)
Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood)
Matsoukas (Queen & Slim)
Har’el (Honey Boy)
Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire)
that’s a great way to honor them!February 9, 2020 at 4:17 pm #1203337280
I will be so incredibly disappointed if a Greta Gerwig film is shut out again this year – I very much want Little Women to win both Adapted Screenplay and Costume Design – imo it’s a million times more deserving than Jojo Rabbit (I am aware that many on here have the opposite opinion). If they split then I hope Greta wins AS and CD goes to Jojo. (I also want Florence Pugh to win but that’s not happening!) (;
Little Women was my favorite movie released in 2019! I really hope it can get Adapted Screenplay above everything else. To see Greta go up and accept an award would make my evening. I think Saoirse and Florence both will have a good shot at winning hardware in the upcoming decade.
