When the Academy votes the same then what 🙊October 13, 2021 at 12:27 pm #1204517505
It’s funny how people are trying to dismiss The Last Duel-and Comer- after the positive reviews it’s gotten.
Hold the horses LA. Box office is deffo the big factor however all it needs is a strong campaign to keep the conversation flowing if the reviews hold up. However an adult movie in the medieval times based on rape was never going to make over 100m so I won’t be too fussed if it bombs, depends how bad honestly.
The truth is this movie will be seen more than half of the predicated best pictures and other above the line nominees and I remember someone saying they could tell by the trailer it would be a critical flop and his instincts are always right and hog looks good so it’s going to do well. Let’s pray for gucci.October 12, 2021 at 11:45 am #1204515684
This is an oscar vehicle with the proviso of a wide release because Ridley is at the helm, comer will happen somewhere like the satellite awards toilet man. 85% now with a potential 79% final.October 8, 2021 at 4:15 pm #1204509896
Ryan Silberstein (managing editor of moviejawn and member of Philly Film Critics): Still not over how good THE LAST DUEL is. It feels very much like a throwback to 90s/00s “prestige blockbusters” like GLADIATOR, MASTER & COMMANDER, THE PATRIOT, but in a procedural type way with at least one excellent female character with actual agency. source: @silberwhatever
This is how tld gains momentum with the academyOctober 8, 2021 at 12:26 pm #1204509445
Bringing it here to stay on topic
she’s actually doing some promotion… (graham norton tonight, and jimmy fallon next week)
I’m aware I was just stating she hasn’t started her campaign yet because she physically can’t from filming. I see all these “oscar” movies going to every fyc possible and imo it wouldn’t hurt disney to try it lol as the very one they went to gave them a mixed response, why not find some variety to test the fake ampas crowd.October 8, 2021 at 9:32 am #1204509061
All this talk about corrin being the one to bring her down… Unpopular alert, I thought Emma was the 3rd best behind Josh and Gillian. People are saying it’s a historical performance and is better than past winners. Corrin did not have the passion to invoke the response Kristen has right now. Obviously the public may feel different because they have biases on kstew with thinking you need to look the part and having loyalty to the crown but hopefully the majority can appreciate her performance. The one she would be compared to is Debicki, no lie she looks like a splitting image and we know she’s a great actress but at least her showing comes out after Spencer.October 8, 2021 at 8:15 am #1204508863
Comer has been campaigning quite a bit and her performance seems to have a tonne of attention and passion even though the film doesn’t. I don’t think she’ll get in at the Oscars but it’s not implausible for her to be this year’s BAFTA/SAG and CC nominee who ends up missing at the Oscars due to the weakness of her film and strength of others.
Doesn’t your movie need to be invited to festivals and actually attened them to campaign? So far it’s been standard movie promoting with premiers only. I need disney to step it up after she finishes filming. I’m talking parties and magazine covers.September 28, 2021 at 9:29 am #1204490442
That’s me reading through how everyone’s sleeping on predicting Jodie Comer in the best actress thread, and in the supporting as well lmao. pd. who’s Rachel Zegler?
Best actress I understand, supporting is where it gets a lil tetchy. Obviously they are going for actress for acclaimed movie with critics, with her being in the top 5 predictions before Venice some dropped her because of how the movie was received and some where threatened because of own favorites in the race. It’s best not to be in the running to face unwarranted results. Zegler lives or dies with how wss is received as they’re no globes imo.September 28, 2021 at 9:00 am #1204490360
RT is extremly slow with adding those reviews. Theres’ still only 17 up on the site with lot more waiting to be added.
Not your ass on this thread.
You didn’t get the memo
“You won, Loudtoilet. Enjoy Dune, I hope it makes you happy. Dear lord, what a sad little life, Loudtoilet. You ruined my night completely so you could have the praise for Dune and I hope now you can take your enthusiasm for lessons on grace and decorum.”
Here to brag are youSeptember 13, 2021 at 1:21 pm #1204457784
Mmm I adore Comer. I have zero doubt in the world that she does an incredible job with what she’s given, I’m afraid this category is generally highly competitive. It’s not just Dunst: look at how Houdyshell is emerging today. I believe that! Great performances miss every year because they’re in crap films. It’s as simple as that.
I have no problem with people not predicting her cause what would be the point of this site, I was being shady because of statement that she had less praises than her co-stars, not that it’s a detriment, the more the merrier but when you see countless reviews with her the standout the comment seems a little bit suspicious.September 12, 2021 at 3:28 pm #1204454446
I think Comer’s out of leading based on screentime and poor TLD reviews but I think she still has a shot at a supporting nom. I mean these look similar to Dunst level to me… (Yes I know she will have a massively bigger barrier given the film)
What do you think about this comment calliee
Tbh love Comer, but I’ve read enough reviews now to know that yeah I don’t think she’s happening here either. Many reviews liked Damon or Driver more.
Accurate or is someone afraid of lil competition?September 11, 2021 at 4:03 am #1204450494
This is bringing great things for Comer even if she doesn’t get a nom this year “ Most of the audience had paid the “Killing Eve” and “Free Guy” star scant regard when she took her seat alone, in advance of the arrival of other cast members, but when her name appeared on the closing credits it provoked a sudden surge in the applause, and as the room was illuminated all eyes were on her, not the other stars.” https://t.co/q0WrSiMnu1
Users on here really tried to gaslight saying she got mild positive praises. When she’s actually in a good movie then she will be coming.September 10, 2021 at 1:35 pm #1204449273
She’s absolutely not getting raves. Her reviews are great but she’s far from being raved.
Liar! She’s getting in because me and wolfali said so
Bafta is going to come through
