That’s because sound is a weak category with little competition so it probably wins it by default. As such, Dune winning sound will not play a big factor in it’s chances of getting a film editing nomination.
Sound was unbelievably weak last year and it still mattered!October 15, 2021 at 2:29 pm #1204520844
Critics Choice members are gonna be so mad because they can’t copy the Globes this time lmao.October 15, 2021 at 3:04 am #1204519828
It’s looking like Cinematography, Sound and Costume Design are the most crowded categories here. There are so many contenders here that feel like shoo-ins, it’s insane.October 13, 2021 at 4:40 am #1204516847
I think I’m going to slot The Last Duel in my predictions again, to get that 100/1 odds. The reviews are getting more and more positive, and the movie is on the IMDB top 10 right now. If it does well at the box office, it could be a sleeper contender.
I think it could be in the top 15, but I don’t see it cracking the top 10. Some late contenders need to fail for that to happen imo.October 13, 2021 at 3:09 am #1204516800
I noticed that the latest reviews for The Last Duel are pretty strong. As of October 13th it has 71 in Metacritic and 86% in Rotten Tomatoes. That’s extremely solid, especially for a movie that started with very mixed reception. I don’t think Picture or Screenplay will happen, but Comer and couple of techs are in still play I would say.October 5, 2021 at 6:06 am #1204503100
Spain just submitted The Good Boss over Parallel Mothers. I do think this has a negative impact on Cruz’s chances. Volpi Cup is the thing that keeps her in this conversation, otherwise she would be Sophia Loren 2.0.October 4, 2021 at 3:20 am #1204500999
Bong’s Best Director win is still blowing my mind. It’s the combination of it being so deserving and so unexpected at the same time.October 1, 2021 at 7:47 am #1204496087
I would be tempted to make Jason Isaacs my predicted winner if it wasn’t Bleecker Street…October 1, 2021 at 6:57 am #1204496011
I have no idea what to do with this category. If there’s a chaotic acting race this year, this might be the one. If Cooper in Licorice Pizza is indeed very small, no one makes sense as a winner.September 27, 2021 at 8:43 am #1204488176
Yup, Licorice Pizza definitely looks like the most accessible movie PTA has made yet. I will just say, if you have both mainstream audience and hardcore cinephiles on your side that could mean very good things in terms of Oscar success.
One thing that could hurt this is if the rumored 3-hour runtime is true.September 24, 2021 at 10:18 am #1204483589
I might put Macbeth back in Picture, which means goodbye West Side Story.September 24, 2021 at 6:49 am #1204483112

Anyway onto other contenders, I do wonder if chastain can win, I’ve always been a huge fan of hers and tammy fae is such a juicy role
She could win but the movie being in a weak position and coming out early doesn’t help. If Spencer and Stewart just tank in televised awards that could potentially help Chastain. It’s between these two at this momement.
