was not nominated by Paris Film Critics (Renate, Cruz and Gaga were all nominated
She wasn’t eligible for this award since Spencer came out in 2022 in France.
February 8, 2022 at 1:01 pm #1204789714I can see Claire Denis also gaining traction next season if La Feu is well received. She’s worked with so many people who are in the academy and is so respected on the international cinema scene.
Are you talking about Both Sides of the Blade (formerly Feu !) which will premiere in Berlin in a few days ? Because this will be waaaay too French to come close to an Oscar nom.
The Stars at Noon on the other hand, which is currently shooting, with Margaret Qualley is more likely but if it’s similar (and it will be) to her other English language feature High Life, there’s absolutely not a single chance the Academy likes it.
February 8, 2022 at 10:51 am #1204789077Do I have the right to say that I prefer Dench over Balfe in Belfast and I kind of understand this choice ?.. (in the same time I can’t get over the Negga snub, I’m pissed)

The film is set to overperform tomorrow and its PD is similar to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.December 6, 2021 at 8:05 am #1204630274Chastain win just lost all its prestige with Lin Manuel Miranda wining Best Director lmao
December 6, 2021 at 7:45 am #1204630087DLU for screenplay! Are we in for more surprises in Actress? I mean there is no correlation, but DLU winning is weird as hell.
It’s not weird at all since it is nominated in BP while Licorice Pizza isn’t. They also love Adam McKay, they gave him Best Director for Vice !
They also nominated Kristen Stewart for Cloud of Sils Maria (taste) so I think she’s winning 3 awards today.
December 6, 2021 at 7:41 am #1204630046The battle between Don’t look up, Belfast and Licorice Pizza to win Original Screenplay will be a bloodbath
November 9, 2021 at 6:35 am #1204566585As said before, Compartment N°6 should be above The Worst Person in the World in your predictions, this snub in Best Picture at EFA is telling..
Does anybody know if Happening was eligible for these awards ?
ReplyOctober 12, 2021 at 5:34 pm #1204516244I really think we’re all sleeping on Compartment n°6 especially now that Almodovar is out for Sony Pictures Classics. It will easily appeal to the older members Academy and much more than The Worst Person in the World in my opinion. I could see a shocking snub on nomination morning for the latter..
ReplyOctober 3, 2021 at 3:44 pm #1204500422Starting to think that France will submit something completely random like Lost Illusions, Paris 13th District or The Mad Women’s Ball
The Mad Women’s Ball was exclusively released on Prime Video so it can’t be selected.
I also have a feeling that Paris 13th District could be randomly picked but I can’t really see France not choosing a female directed film in this historic year for Palme and Lion winners.
ReplyOctober 1, 2021 at 4:59 pm #1204497285Even though I loved Memories of War I think France ought to have submitted something else that year. Not sure which film though.
I love Memories of War and hate Custody but they should have gone with the latter for a potential nomination.
ReplySeptember 15, 2021 at 5:47 pm #1204462311Not anymore. November 24 is the new French release https://www.instagram.com/p/CT2GuowIdqQ/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=5449f406-11ae-48ec-ae05-3b0c24adbaee
Yep the suspense is dead now, France will pick L’Evénement, sorry Titane !
ReplySeptember 15, 2021 at 6:30 am #1204460858If for some reason neither of these two becomes our submission, the next in line I’d guess is something like Pleasure. Directed by Ninja Thyberg, the film centers on a young woman in the L.A. adult film industry. It’s been making its way around some festivals and have been received fairly well. Knowing my home country, this one might very well be the one being submitted.
Pleasure isn’t eligible in this category, the film is entirely in English.
ReplySeptember 14, 2021 at 6:28 am #1204458856At the time being I’m inclined to put more faith in L’evenement and The Worst Person in the World than in Hand of God. The movie is good but it’s fragile in many points and not in the same state of grace as The Great Beauty. So I don’t know if Sorrentino will have a shot in other categories (in that case, he obviously would became the frontrunner here)
L’événement (Happening) is set for a 2022 release in France so if it sticks to this date it won’t be eligible for Best International Feature at Oscars next ceremony..
Maybe now with its Golden Lion win the French distributor will change the date but for the moment, it can’t be selected by the French comity.
