I don’t feel like My Father’s Dragon is getting much Oscar buzz. There’s too much competition coming from Disney and Netflix already. Even Marcel the Shell has more publicity.October 1, 2022 at 3:43 pm #1205104422
Darling, the lack of recognition (nods and win) for indie/2D movies in this race is so sad. They think that the best animated movie are released by that greedy Disney and Pixar.
It’s gotten worse since they allowed the whole academy to vote for Best Animated Feature (it used to be that only the animation branch could decide the nominees).September 14, 2022 at 8:09 pm #1205084327
Wendell & Wild seems to be getting good reviews. Don’t know if it will be hyped up enough for a nomination. 100% on Rottentomatoes, but 9 reviews and a 7.1/10 average. I guess we’ll wait for more reviews.
The PG-13 rating is going to hurt its chances: less likely that the Academy voters’ children will like it.
Despite that there are roster of great animated films this year, Academy still doesn’t care about animation and thinks that it’s designed only for kids. And so, Disney/Pixar still prevails in the end, sadly.
Also, they only care about western animation so anime rarely gets nominated.September 12, 2022 at 1:05 am #1205077952
The only documentary I’m familiar with this year is What Is a Woman?, and there’s no way that one’s getting nominated (unless they want to open a HUGE can of worms).August 28, 2022 at 11:15 am #1205056990
I wouldn’t be surprised if Lightyear gets nominated despite it being unpopular. Most Academy members don’t take this category seriously and just vote for whatever Disney/Pixar released during the year.
By the way, this is Canada’s submission to the Oscars. Is it going to pull a FLEE and get nominated for International, Documentary, and Animated Feature?August 24, 2022 at 5:52 am #1205053592
Wendell & Wild – Rated PG-13 for some thematic material, violence, substance use and brief strong language.
Interesting. This one is a likely candidate for Best Animated Feature. I wonder if the Oscars will keep insisting that animation is “just for kids.”August 16, 2022 at 10:00 pm #1205048012
So, has anyone here seen INU-OH? I guess not (and neither will the Oscar voters).August 13, 2022 at 10:27 am #1205044316
The Animated Film category is kind of lame. Where’s the anime?August 6, 2022 at 11:51 am #1205036788
Is there going to be anything nominated this year that ISN’T for kids? Not now
