Imagine the Grammys choosing Folklore to win AOTY after being called out by major mainstream artists like The Weeknd and Drake for being corrupt so that Taylor, America’s sweetheart and darling, can win AOTY not for a SECOND time but for a THIRD time. Yeah…not happening.
The Grammy voters don’t care… they are going to vote for who they want to (look at the nominations this year..) Folklore checks literally all the boxes (acclaim, success, cross appeal into many genres), even the narrative (an album made in quarantine). Sometimes the obvious answer is the correct one. Even the haters on Twitter know she has it.November 26, 2020 at 3:06 pm #1203875945
After listening to folklore and watching her recording session film I do think she deserves aoty. It still doesn’t justify how blatantly the academy set up her win tho. Like only nominating albums that didn’t even make it in their genre categories, meaning they knew they weren’t getting enough votes ?? I think they secured Taylor’s win by manipulating the process when in reality she could’ve won regardless, and then it would feel like a much bigger accomplishment. Now if she doesn’t win it’d be embarrassing and it’s not a fair race at all.
I can’t say I don’t agree with this statement. Based on how the Grammys reacted to folklore, she could have pulled through even with decent competition.November 26, 2020 at 11:42 am #1203875609
If there is an upset in GF it will probably be in SOTY.November 25, 2020 at 5:40 pm #1203873671
I really dont see them giving taylor her 3rd AOTY just like that no way
If they really didn’t want to hand Taylor her 3rd AOTY, she would not have even been nominated. If anything, they would have at least gave her some competition (FTBC, After Hours, Jaime). None of those albums are nominated. They set her up for a win. Taylor is VERY likely to walk away with her 3rd AOTY.November 25, 2020 at 7:38 am #1203871643
I really haven’t seen any major backlash to folklore getting nominated. I think it’s because even people who aren’t her biggest fans know the quality is there. Folklore was honestly undeniable because of its acclaim and genuine quality in the music / production. The commercial success was just the cherry on top. Its a shame other artists who actually deserved a nomination didn’t get in.November 24, 2020 at 8:24 pm #1203869877
Moriahface, give it a rest. You hate Taylor… we get it.November 24, 2020 at 5:08 pm #1203868547
Im a Taylor Swift fan but I’m not blind to the very real injustice of the weekend being snubbed for no valid reason. Again, I REALLY hope the truth comes out as he was obviously purposely removed. You can’t group all us swift fans together. Like @ghost said months ago, the fairest thing would have been to let the proper albums compete in AOTY and then see if Taylor was deserving of her 3rd. Were literally at the point where it would be a shock if she didn’t win. Gucci of all people even knows Taylor is winning and that really says it all!November 24, 2020 at 4:59 pm #1203868454
I like Taylor but they clearly set her up to win. No hate as it’s not her fault but there are deserving artists who could have made AOTY over those random wtf nominations in AOTY.November 24, 2020 at 3:59 pm #1203867967
I told y’all and I stand by it the weekend was shut out purposely. I really hope someone will uncover the truth.November 24, 2020 at 3:44 pm #1203867835
For the record, The Weeknd had no issue getting nominated for “I Can’t Feel My Face” in Pop Solo few years ago. So something is definitely wrong this year. Maybe the number of people who voted is just abysmally low and not representative of what’s culturally relevant.
This could very well be what happened. It would explain the random nominations that nobody expected.November 24, 2020 at 3:38 pm #1203867782
I personally think Abel was removed. I dont buy him just missing, too bizarre.November 24, 2020 at 3:37 pm #1203867771
Most of us are all pretty shocked and can’t understand why Abel was shut out but that doesn’t mean some of the other nominees (Taylor and Dua) didn’t deserve their noms.November 24, 2020 at 3:34 pm #1203867737
Swift fans, seriously, you are never going to get it. You should consider yourselves lucky that you happen to be fans of someone who is always considered a default choice in categories. It does not matter if you think cardigan is well written – it did not have a place in SOTY. At this point, Taylor is like a default in AOTY *unless* there’s absolutely no way the BRP could justify it (a la reputation and Lover). So basically as long as the album is decent, she’s getting in. You have no idea how easy she has it, honestly. The fact that Abel had the year he had and was SNUBBED is outrageous. It’s okay to acknowledge that Taylor is the most privileged woman in the music industry.
While I 100% agree Abel did not deserve to be snubbed, that’s not Taylors fault. It’s the Grammys. Taylor may be white and privleged but Folklore is a very very well done album. The fact that she still got nominated despite being a 2 time winner attests to that. Nothing about Folklore is average or decent more like excellent and exceptional. There are lot of people who didn’t even like her who became fans with Folklore. I seriously think it’s her best album. To be making music this good this late in her career is nothing short of amazing. Taylor got into AOTY because the quality was there period. You could easily make the same argument about Dua Lipa (which is an amazing electronic pop record btw) but you picked on Taylor?
