I really think Lawrence is shaping up to be dangerous in this category. What might push her over the top is the fact that while Hustle may get 7-8 nominations, it probably won’t be winning more than 1 or 2. Lawrence could be the way to acknowledge Hustle, much in the way she was the big win for SLP.December 12, 2013 at 5:46 am #123072
Nothing for The Butler!December 12, 2013 at 5:38 am #395063
I’ve thought that Bruno would win ROTY for some time now, and I’m not changing that prediction. Locked out of Heaven fits the bill here, plus he is poised to win a big award after a huge year. He is regarded as one of the best live performers at every awards show. He is also ‘safe’ enough for the BRP and seems to me like the easiest choice.December 12, 2013 at 5:15 am #123004
I think Amy Adams was dealt a huge blow with her snub. Not sure she’s coming back from it. The actors are probably her biggest group of supporters.
I think the winners are Ejiofor, Bullock, Leto and Lawrence.December 10, 2013 at 5:22 am #394530
I like both I Drive Your Truck and Mamas Broken Heart. Miranda should take this, and the former should take Country song. Blake can take country album…Mine would be You is generic and if he won it would be off of name alone.
Forget Taylor and Kasey…I’m more suprised that they didn’t nominate Carrie’s Two Black Caddilacs. Didn’t she submit two songs? Maybe she screwed herself.December 9, 2013 at 7:18 pm #394282
We can expect all of the BNA nominees to perform…which sounds like it could make for a snoozy night. Ed Sheeran, James Blake, Kasey Musgraves…Hopefully they are spead out.
I wonder if they will block any of the big nominees from performing? Last year, they declined to invite Gotye to perform the eventual ROTY winning track.December 9, 2013 at 7:12 pm #306317
I hope NBC does more of this type of production. They proved the point that a carefully crafted, well produced piece of programming with real actors, singers, (artists) , etc can actually be successful. We aren’t just sitting here waiting for the next Chuck Lorre sitcom or CSI San Francisco. Props to NBC.December 9, 2013 at 6:56 pm #395055
Until last year, I always thought that the ROTY winner had to have industry cred, or at least a certain amount of experiene and respect. That theory went out the window with Gotye winning (and The Black Keys losing), so I think Radioactive can be a threat to win.December 9, 2013 at 5:38 am #394979
Pink and Katy are bridesmaids here. Bruno and Macklemore have some factors in their favor. But I think this is Lorde’s prize of the night. This is where I feel she poses the strongest chance of winning. Royals has SOTY written all over it. I think Bruno takes record, and she takes this.December 9, 2013 at 5:35 am #394883
Ed Sheeran is extremely talented, and stands on his own merit…but Taylor certainly opened him up to a wider audience here in the US. The Red Tour and the collaboration were huge platforms.December 9, 2013 at 5:31 am #395160
I doubt Sara will win, but it’s not because of her suprise nomination. It’s because the album has lackluster reviews and below-modest sales. Most people weren’t even aware that it existed (outside of her core fangroup).
I also don’t think Taylor is winning. Her lack of pop nominations and GF nominations (other than AOTY) speak volumes IMO. I knew You were Trouble was completely overlooked. I think she’ll get Country Song, possibly country Album an or duo/group as a consolation.
I also feel comfortable ruling out Kendrick Lamar. To be the first Rap winner since Outkast, I think the album would have to be more stand-out and popular. Macklemore has the edge on him.
Daft Punk, is the default winner here, with Macklemore as a spoiler.December 9, 2013 at 5:23 am #394387
Great set of nominess. This is one of the strongest categories this year.
Blake has the best album of his career. I think he prevails by an inch.
Don’t count out the others though. Same Trailer Different Park is the best album of the bunch IMO. Taylor has the biggest album of the entire year. Even Jason and Tim’s albums are full of hits and have good sales.December 8, 2013 at 2:10 pm #395049
Bruno Mars wins here. Get Lucky won’t win…song without live instrumentation never win here. Bruno will be due, and LOOH is his finest record.December 8, 2013 at 2:07 pm #394765
Pop Album is usually given as a consulation prize to an artist who is screwed over in other cateogories (unless it is part of a sweep). I think Justin or Bruno could easily win this. Thicke and LDR should be happy to be nominated. Lorde could spoil.December 8, 2013 at 1:56 pm #394837
This category is tougher to call than it has been in the past. I’ve always thought Bruno would win here, regardless of which of his songs were nominated…and I still think he’ll win. Think Rolling in the Deep/Someone like you. A very similar scenario, and I think it will work in his favor.
Roar and Brave are the bridesmaids unfortunately. Mirrors and Royals form the biggest threats to Bruno…but I think his performance of WIWYM trumps them both. His is truly the best pop solo performance.
