Haven’t read through this entire thread but Emily Lloyd springs to mind. Plenty of potential wasted.

Another Emily (Watson) while having had a great career I believe could have had so much more if she hadn’t turned down lead roles in the likes of Elizabeth, Amelie, Gangs of New York etc…but at least she now has a decent career in TV.

Zhang Ziyi was snubbed because of the Japanese backlash against casting a Chinese woman in the role. It wasn’t the first time they have chosen to avoid stoking the fire of controversy, whether that be racial discrimination or sexual misconduct claims etc…politics will always get in the way especially of “minorities” least likely to be nominated.

Maybe if you had spent as much time promoting The Farewell as you did the Rich White Americans demographic Irishman/Hollywood/Ford things would be different lol

I can’t think of a more unsympathetic character than hers in Atonement lol.

I’ll say it again though, her final scene in Little Women shits all over her fellow nominees. She not only brought Jo to life but made her even more interesting than her character was written. Her fourth nomination is her most deserving yet.

Every acting nominee this year hit a major precursor so I’m sorry to have started this thread and gotten people excited over nothing! Last year was far more exciting! Supporting Actor and Actress particularly dull. How uninspiring and non diverse!
