Haven’t seen it in a while but from what I remember at the end of series 3 he betrayed Shiv by alerting Logan to the kid’s plans, and at the end of this series he betrayed her again by stealing the American CEO role from under her feet

But happy that the kids are away from the toxic machine that was screwing them all up so badly…and I think that’s what their mother wanted to happen.
The family scenes at Caroline’s holiday home I think might have been my favourite of the show so far. I leave the show thinking they might continue to shelter and reconnect with her now the business and their father is gone.

Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt - Oppenheimer (Best Actor/Actress)May 27, 2023 at 1:50 pm #1205443089So, Merve Dizdar wins the first major festival of the season. If there were slim chances for Sandra Huller to get to Oscar gold, for Merve Dizdar it is practically impossible. I am acquainted with her work, she is truly one of the Turkish finest (actually, I think that she is writing history with this as I think she is the first Turkish actress to have won Cannes’ Best Actress) but I think she will probably end up like Zahra Amir Ebrahimi last year – a potential but nothing more than that.
There have been only two women to win Cannes this century and follow up with an Oscar nomination (Penelope Cruz/Rooney Mara) so yeah unfortunately Dizdar’s chances are slim at best.
And usually when it’s happened the actor is already known in Hollywood…but I’m grateful that Cannes shines a light on these performances that get paid dust by the industry. Dizdar is a really inspired winner and the first Turkish actress to win

. Cromwell ate tho.
I gagged when she rounded up Logan’s lovers to sit in the front row at the funeral. Iconic behaviour but yes, I needed more, hopefully she gets more time in the finale!
James Cromwell was fantastic, I’m glad he interjected at the funeral as I was hoping he did in such a powerful speech!

I’m disappointed too, but was mainly just hoping for great reviews for Vikander more than anything, which seems to be the general take
Also critics reviews don’t always mean the end with some festival movies. Apparently Firebrand had 8 minutes standing ovation…Vikander could still win Best Actress here if there’s passion for her, although I’m predicting Sandra Hüller
For example last year too Holy Spider wasn’t received rapturously by critics but Zar Amir Ebrahimi won which not many including myself predicted

Good comic scene (wasabi), a great confrontation with Shiv that leads to him betraying her in the key moment of the episode, AND the small scene with Jess and Greg was perfectly played. Even Jesse Armstrong says that Jess scene is his favorite in the episode. I think I’m ultimately still leaning towards Braun getting a nomination but I’m also predicting Ruck. But, if I add Skarsgard, that would be 4 supporting nominations and I’m not sure how likely that is? Are people predicting 4 or leaving one of them out?
Was it just me or after Greg spoke with Kendall outside the window at the end and Shiv was watching him walk by was he smiling smugly? The reflection made it hard to see…but yeah this was Braun’s strongest and funniest episode so far.
Anyways, I’m guessing the funeral episode is next, the wait is FINALLY over for Harriet Walter and James Cromwell to make a hopefully memorable return! I’m hoping one or both of them interrupts the wake with an unwelcome speech…

Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt - Oppenheimer (Best Actor/Actress)May 17, 2023 at 1:01 am #1205430935I legit gasped when Tom said the mother line to Shiv, i was waiting for her to say that she’s pregnant but i don’t think that this is smth that’s ever going to be mentioned again
Still not up to date but caught up with this episode. This might be one of my favourites so far as I prefer more intimate episodes where they’re all in pretty much one room…
I think what gutted Shiv most about the mother comment is she really doesn’t want to be like her own mother. It was a terrific argument scene among many in this episode.
To be honest I haven’t been too fussed about Skarsgard the entire show but his character really came to life this episode…his body language is spot on…
The way the tension escalated from Roman and Geri arguing, him going to take it out on Connor, Matson as audience, Kendall stepping in was like a runaway train!

I meant specifically the horror genre as it seems most years these performances are overlooked

Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt - Oppenheimer (Best Actor/Actress)May 11, 2023 at 10:03 am #1205426881Darling, I find it so boring that is always a bunch of performances in an unseen/unfinished prestige projects getting automatic considerations every year. While many great performances in already released genre movies constantly getting ignored so badly lol… I wish the academy could overcome their boring genre bias (yes, especially towards horror films).
I’d hoped Emily Blunt winning SAG for a genre performance might break the ice, but nothing since sadly

Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt - Oppenheimer (Best Actor/Actress)May 10, 2023 at 9:26 am #1205425949I have to disagree about Vikander. Her nomination/win while category fraud was a brilliant performance and should have been nominated in Best Actress, and I’d have given her the win in supporting for Ex Machina. Two nominations happen in the same year for others and her case is one of the strongest that never happened…
Also about Hopkins, he deserved the nomination and win for The Remains of the Day, I wish Shadowlands had been released another year as he was also nomination worthy for that too. It’s not often you get two Oscar worthy performances in the same category in the same year from the same actor.
A new one I’d like to add is Miranda Richardson for Damage. While I think she deserved the nomination I think I’d prefer her to have been nominated for The Crying Game.

Most of their scenes were together as a troublesome duo so it could make sense?
I hope not, for me Grannò’s best scenes were with Impacciatore and I’d love to see both get in
