Two WOC getting in Best Actress shouldn’t be such a fucking hurdle but then I remember last year’s disaster when the three women of color (+ Alfre who was a longshot) were fighting for the 5th spot. Only for the critical favorite in an acclaimed hit movie and the Comedy Globe winner to be sidelined. That was beyond pathetic
Both Awkwa and Lupita DESERVED. Tbh I didn’t love any of the nominated performances.October 14, 2020 at 9:51 am #1203778072
The Boys getting into Drama would be the coolest thing the Globes have done in a long time. And Pen15 in Comedy would also be amazing.October 14, 2020 at 9:45 am #1203778039
Yep this. I mean the reason I am (and I imagine a lot of people who like the show from the UK) like it is because of the writing and performances. I love how people are rewriting history claiming I was hyping last season when for months I was accused of hope dicting Succession winning over The Crown but anyway the reason I’m hyped is because I know the history of this season quite a bit (and I don’t meant the royal one I mean things like the Falklands for example) and the reason I said I think Anderson has done a good job at Thatcher’s mannerisms is because I edited a friend’s documentary history web series on Thatcher and Blair’s time as PM so I don’t understand Ryan F’s reaction. But yeah the real reason I’m interested in this season is the political history. I frankly couldn’t care for the Royal family in real life (I was asleep when the last royal wedding happened lol) but the reason why I’m excited for this season and why I liked season 2 was the exploration of things like the Suez crisis, the Profumo affair and the Falklands war. Also like I said whilst I’m not a fan of the monarchy it’s a big overstatement to say people in the UK don’t care so much. Like you said Marty there’s a reason why tabloids are so obsessive of them. Anyway end of my TED talk.
Like the American tabloids aren’t obsessive lol. One can’t pick up a mag without them on the cover.October 12, 2020 at 1:21 pm #1203773350

Actually these helped us a lot. I hope you move the nominations before the Emmys’ as well.August 21, 2020 at 6:21 am #1203658265
Hmm. Whilst I am inclined to agree with you here I think Sandra has a bigger narrative this year than she had last year. In 2018 she had the narrative of being the first Asian-American woman to be nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series, last year she had an overdue narrative but this year she seems to have both those narratives plus the narrative of being an Asian-American lead who has lost Emmys to two white co-stars on their first tries (as deserving as both Heigl and Comer were), an Asian woman that most agree is having her character sidelined on her own show despite the fact her character’s name is in the title as well as the controversy of Killing Eve‘s all white writers room. She is also aided by the fact that whilst Jodie Comer was excellent during this season of Killing Eve that she has been awarded the win already for the season where she had undeniable buzz (she doesn’t have undeniable buzz this season).
I agree with this take. The context is just different this year and there are many more things in Sandra’s favour.August 21, 2020 at 5:30 am #1203658216
I don’t think Jodie likes to campaign. She didn’t campaign much last year either. She’s like Olivia Colman; she just doesn’t like to do it, which I really respect.
But Jodie did campaign last year so the argument is not completely unfounded. Although it might just be that she knows her chances are slim and won’t even bother.August 5, 2020 at 12:49 pm #1203628247
That was such a great moment and the way she delivered her line is unforgettable. Also the power in that “Fuck you”.August 5, 2020 at 2:24 am #1203627403
Lol the trashing of her performance is OTT on this forum but I guess that’s GD for you. Almost hilarious how incensed some are on here whenever her name is mentioned when she herself appears completely unbothered by this Emmy season and is instead busy raising money with PWB to disburse to UK theater folks who are out of work I can see neutrals voting for her.
So not believing she can win it’s trashing now.
