You probably heard that from one critic. Most others have been positive about the script.
I feel like the praise for the movie focused mainly on performances. Moreover, there are also reviews on letterboxd saying the script is all over the place and most of the pundits who have watched it are not predicting it in Screenplay. But we’ll see.

I don’t think you quite got the ending of PYW. It’s not supposed to be a victory. Far from it.
January 19, 2021 at 1:37 pm #1203991970Mank missing in Picture and Director again…I’ve been toying with the idea that the Globes will snub it in Drama too but I’m not brave enough to predict it.
ReplyJanuary 19, 2021 at 1:55 am #12039907818/10 BP winners in these 10 years also won Best Screenplay. (Exceptions are The Artist, a silent film, and The Shape of Water, a fantasy film) Films which are predicted to win screenplay rn: -Chicago 7 (Original) -Nomadland (Adapted) -One Night in Miami (Adapted) (We don’t know about Judas yet.)
Heard the script for Judas is its biggest weakness being unfocused and all over the place.
January 18, 2021 at 5:13 am #1203989204Carey deserves a nomination. But I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s snubbed Jake Gyllenhaal style (nominated at the precursors but snubbed at Oscars). PYW is a great film but it’s also very polarizing & that ending is divisive. A lot of older voters might be turned off.
The audience scores are great and most people have no problem with the ending. It even has 7.5 on the bros site IMDb. I mean this argument worked before it came out but now not so much. Also what’s with this bias against old people? I bet they will be less distressed about it than the younger crowd.
January 18, 2021 at 4:42 am #1203989187The only way Boseman could lose BA is if they reward him in Supporting. I’ve seen some critics and pundits pushing this path but I don’t know if voters will bite.
ReplyJanuary 18, 2021 at 4:35 am #1203989184Anne has been wrong plenty of times and by her own admission she hasn’t talked to many members this year. And not even dreaming to compare it to Parasite but PYW is the only movie this season that comes close to the passion Parasite had on social media. I don’t think it has a chance to win but I do think it’s getting that BP nomination.
January 16, 2021 at 12:59 pm #1203986742Several days ago, someone posted the SAG Ensemble shortlist and PYW wasn’t on there.
January 16, 2021 at 2:55 am #1203986159Someone did this on AW with the BP contenders so I borrowed it because I think it’s interesting.

Age gaps are fine but not if that’s all we see.
January 15, 2021 at 8:47 am #1203984850While I agree that PYW isn’t anything to write home about, Zendaya’s movie looks like it should be headed straight to the MTV movie awards. One of the main complaints about the trailer was that the movie looks like a music video. I actually wouldn’t be surprised at all if Zendaya does win an award at the MTV movie awards. As for PYW, it’s just such a strange movie, I can’t picture voters going out of their way to vote for Carey.
What’s so strange about it?
January 13, 2021 at 3:30 am #1203981031Yelling on camera does not mean Oscar worthy. I wish Raci could win with this quiet performance just to see some of the reactions BuT hE dIdn’T dO aNyThInG.
January 11, 2021 at 7:38 pm #1203978358Haha yes. I was just posting the winners just for fun. This in no way affects the Oscars race (only one of the contenders were nominated). Interesting nonetheless that Ahmed won too.
It will help Ahmed since he’s already on the verge of a nomination but Beharie is not happening.

It would look so freaking bad if they did it. I hope they won’t be this dumb and tone-deaf.
