What do you call that film with hot dog fingers?
Erm, Oscar wieners?March 20, 2022 at 2:36 am #1204860887I’ve been watching many new movies lately, but I feel compelled to write about Nightmare Alley because of Bradley Cooper. If I wasn’t a huge BC fan before, I am one now. Wow, what a superb performance he gave, clearly one of the best by an actor this year. And probably my favorite BC performance ever. Unlike the critics, I didn’t care for his acting in Licorice Pizza, but this one is truly a gem.
March 9, 2019 at 5:14 am #1202810044I just watched Ben Is Back. Julia Roberts is amazing, and Lucas Hedges is superb. But I still prefer Beautiful Boy and I still think Thimothee Chalamet should have won the Oscar.
Free Solo was gripping and very heartfelt at the same time.
Destroyer was a pretty irritating movie, despite Nicole Kidman delivering a knockout performance. But Glenn Close was still better than everyone else last year.

This week, I was bored by Old Man and the Gun, a pointless film about a man who led an unproductive life.January 20, 2019 at 6:18 am #1202740603I watched Spiderverse (finally!), Glass and The Mule this weekend.

I was especially impressed by the Mule, I love everything about it from the cast to the screenplay to the music. Possibly my favorite Eastwood movie ever!November 8, 2018 at 12:44 am #1202670725The House With a Clock in its Walls
This is a handsomely-mounted production that has its moments but is otherwise pretty ho-hum. It is meant for younger viewers, yet the dark subject matter may not be that suitable. For adults, the movie is neither scary nor that hilarious, although some of the quips are funny enough. The visual effects are okay, but if you have been watching movies for the past half century like i have, then there is nothing new, different or special that will wow you. It is always fun to watch Jack Black and Cate Blanchett act but here, they are outshone by young Owen Vaccaro, who is the best reason for seeing this movie.
