It had 263k viewers on Sunday. It was even with American Rust’s premiere last year, a little higher than Yellowjackets (that one had 246k viewers) and way below Your honor’s first episode (almost 450k).April 16, 2022 at 12:06 pm #1204919301
^ I totally agree. I think that one-two punch of floppage with Anatomy and The first lady is going to be perceived by a lot of voters as the end of the Emmy season. After them, Under the banner of heaven will be the only one they will probably care about imo.
I mean, is The Essex Serpent actually coming in May? No trailer, no sign of it in the Apple’s FYC page, etc.April 14, 2022 at 4:49 pm #1204917297
In a Q&A Frémaux did with Deadline today after the press conference, he said the films they will announce next week are “especially french cinema” (in another interview he did with Variety today he said they might be include around 10 more movies with the possibility of increasing the number of titles in the main competition from 18 to 20). From the names people have been throwing around, that “french cinema” part could fit Robin Campillo, Hansen-Love again or Alice Winocour for instance.April 3, 2022 at 3:04 pm #1204898488
maybe they are pairing it with Pop Solo Performance and BTPVA at the end. It didn´t make much sense there lolApril 2, 2022 at 1:23 pm #1204894524
Imagine if Jessica Chastain gets nominated again for playing Tammy
As in George & Tammy? That´s a miniseries I think.
She has The good nurse with Netflix though and that has a lot of Oscar nominees involved: Tobias Lindholm directing, Redmayne co-starring, Kristy Wilson-Cairns penning the script and Aronofsky and Scott Franklin producing.February 9, 2022 at 12:19 pm #1204792604
It is the jury system. I suspected it could happen. Best Actress is the only category it happened under the new system with 0 overlap with Oscars line-up. In this race, BAFTAs has no weight, I think the CC award being same date with BAFTA could be the influencer in the category for final voting.
I don’t think so. People need to start realizing that the voting method is different and in the end that could play a big part if passion picks come trough. SAG and BAFTA noms are based on a simple mentions recount while the Academy uses a preferential ballot. For all we know, Gaga could be among the contenders with more mentions at the Oscars just like she probably did at SAG Awards and BAFTA, yet miss the nomination since she lacked enough top 3 placements. Maybe, with a preferential ballot in place at SAG and BAFTA, she could have perfectly missed there aswell. We just will never know.February 8, 2022 at 2:35 pm #1204790081
<p style=”text-align: left;”>HOG simply peaked too early imo and Gaga got dragged with it being hurt by a late January voting. Stewart got the push by the SAG snub narrative just at the right moment and Chastain is way more liked and respected by her peers than people give her credit for.</p>
If the voting would have happened in December, Gaga will be a nominee today tbh. She was partly victim of a longer awards schedule.February 3, 2022 at 1:14 pm #1204771895
Bong loving Don’t look up is not really unexpected. He is producing the HBO series based on Parasite with McKay and his company, Hyperobject. He must be really fond of him and his style if he picked him back then.February 2, 2022 at 2:43 pm #1204767006
Well, we don’t know the previous record. Maybe it was in the pits lol. First round voting has always been a struggle due to the amount of contenders to watch.February 2, 2022 at 1:31 pm #1204766821
@UnionCityMood But that´s a logic that will work in a jury like the one in VeniceFF or CannesFF where there must be a consensus so they can apply that logic. Here, I don´t think they vote together. Their votes are just tallied afterwards so the hurdle for performers in “populist” movies is getting enough mentions to be Top 4. It could happen but they will always be in “disadvantage” and they will need real passion.February 2, 2022 at 12:49 pm #1204766711
I just cackled when I saw he has Gucci and Cruella getting snubbed in Costume Design. I just don´t understand the logic behind that lolJanuary 21, 2022 at 2:52 pm #1204742707
^ And Day-Lewis for Gangs of New York. Nicholson and Gere won the Globe. The latter had Chicago in ensemble.January 21, 2022 at 1:58 pm #1204742600
I think Gaga´s pairing is DiCaprio lol He´s never done one of those and I totally see Variety having the temptation to milk the infamous GG thing just for the meme culture lolJanuary 16, 2022 at 8:35 am #1204731678
It´s worth reminding that voting for the Oscars nominations will close on Feb.1st while BAFTA noms will be announced on Feb. 3rd so making it or not at BAFTAs it will mean nothing if someone isn´t already “in” at the Oscars. For us, in the categories where it´s just the chapter voting, they could help us to see some things coming in our predictions (same if we have some very obvious “top two” in the juried ones) but, other than that, Hudson (or anybody else) won´t be receiving any type of late push among some lazy voters just because she got picked by the british jury.January 16, 2022 at 1:52 am #1204731196
Why does everybody assume Scanlan is a jury save in the first round? Bar Supp. Actress, After Love got the same mentions as Passing: British Film, Director, Actress, Screenplay and the almighty Casting. In fact, it’s one of the two movies that got long listed in Casting with just one acting mention (the other one is Tick Tick Boom). With that performance, her career and the film’s BIFA sweep, I totally see her being able to be Top 12 by vote. Not now
