Don’t think he’s awful but he’s one of the most limited working actors nowadays. He simply plays himself in everything.
I really wish he did more dramatic or at least out of character work after Buried, because he’s amazing in that movie. Absolutely manages to carry being the only actor on screen in a single location, and have it still be engaging. Takes the charming guy persona he usually plays and completely subverts it by putting it in that situation. Much how like Adam Sandler in Punch-Drunk Love is still playing a similar character he usually plays, but in a more dramatic world. I Reynolds should’ve been nominated for an Oscar for that one, because it really changed my perception of him as a performer. Shame he hasn’t done something like that since. That being said however, I don’t hate his goofy movies. They can be very entertaining in a not serious way.
ReplyMarch 3, 2023 at 9:29 pm #1205331343Completely disagree. Optics aren’t on Wills side. Kids watched that shit live. Kids don’t know or care who Polanski was when he was awarded and wasn’t even there. Oscars is supposed to be a family friendly show too.
This is a shit take. A whole room celebrating a child rapist is a worse crime than an adult man slapping another adult man for insulting his wife. If it wasn’t a televised embarrassing moment that wouldn’t have even been considered a crime from the public. In fact I’d go as far to say child rape is maybe the literal worst crime of all time.
March 3, 2023 at 6:27 pm #1205331188the slap was far from the most repulsive and biggest fuck up in oscar history? you can find the slap repulsive, sure and it was distasteful but the academy gave a standing ovation to roman polanski. THAT is the most repulsive thing in oscar history
That whole room knew why he wasn’t there too. They all knew what he did to a 13 year old child, and why he fled the country, and they all stood and cheered so proudly as they awarded him. I agree, truly the most disgusting thing we (publicly) saw an awards show. A jackass calmy slapping another jackass has nothing on that. The overreaction of people acting like Will tried to murder Chris was more disgusting than the actual incident.
March 3, 2023 at 8:46 am #1205330462I feel like I’ll get flack for this, but I just really can’t get into Natu Natu as a standalone song. The dance scene it’s played with in RRR is very fun, but when it’s just the song, with no visuals it feels to me like it’s extremely repetitive, and lacks nice sounding instrumentals in favor of harsh sounding beats over and over. It’s not something I can listen to as a song itself, and I feel like the love for RRR as a movie and the genuinely very fun dancing overhyped that track.
February 27, 2023 at 12:08 pm #1205323059Angela Basset is decent in a bad movie, but is not given the material for a worthy Oscar win. It would be an even worse career win than Jamie Lee Curtis, because at least Jamie Lee is in a great movie. I like her, but Angela is in a subpar Marvel movie even by Marvel standards. The real winners should be Hsu, Chau, or Condon.

ReplyFebruary 23, 2023 at 2:18 pm #1205315295I don’t wanna come across as opinionated but I am just curious. I really enjoyed The Fabelmans and was really happy for Spielberg to share his story and get acclaim like that. So I’ve been a little disappointed to see that the film has a lot of hate online. Just wondering if someone could explain what they don’t like about the film?
Generally I feel like most best picture nominees are well liked, until they become best picture nominees, and then people online try to find every reason to hate it, and are just generally insufferable when they state their opinions as fact in an aggressive way. This site included. On nomination day, I saw many replies that made me genuinely embarrassed to be a user here, who just has fun trying to predict nominees and winners, because I love movies and good shows.

February 13, 2023 at 4:55 pm #1205302582The fact that Paul Dano was so excellent in the same movie, and had lots of screentime, and got precursor nominations is so insulting. He was one of the best parts of the movie.
Screentime:
– Paul Dano – 42:30 (28.19%)
– Judd Hirsch – 8:03 (5.34%)

February 1, 2023 at 2:09 pm #1205280035Given some of the passion for other films in the category, I don’t think All Quiet winning International Film is completely locked up. I’m looking at how The Quiet Girl ends up doing with BAFTA.
There is no world where International Feature is not going to the only film in that category that is also nominated for Best Picture,
