I read the reason was so she could work with Redford. Silly choice!

ReplyOctober 12, 2018 at 5:19 pm #1202651648
Murphy’s #MeToo confrontation moment was strong for Candice Bergen, and I’m liking that her relationship with Phyllis is mirroring Murphy and Phil’s. Beyond that, this reboot is doing little to distinguish or justify itself for existing in 2018. All the modernizing in the world with social media, Trump references, and current events can’t replace the missing “spark” that’s either there or it isn’t. Part of the problem is a lacking ensemble cast. Bergen really needs strong actors to bounce off of to bring out her greatness. Jay Thomas, Colleen Dewherst, Scott Bakula, Lily Tomlin, Robert Pastorelli, Pat Corley, Robin Thomas, etc., all did that previously, and now what’s needed is the next iteration of that. It’s early on still, so here’s hoping for that and more.

Ford, Regalbuto and Kimbrough were all Emmy nominees, and Shaud should have been. When either English or the OG writers were running the show, they were all part of what made the show great.

I think Emmys don’t like revivals.
True, but Tomlin and Janney feel vulnerable, and I can see their voters switching to Bergen.

ReplyAugust 7, 2018 at 10:08 am #1202604562Bergen should have no problem getting in over Tomlin and Janney, at the very least.
ReplyJuly 30, 2018 at 8:56 am #1202598602Given her reputation, Roseanne should be lucky she got the one Emmy she did.
ReplyJuly 29, 2018 at 7:55 pm #1202598209Except for possibly Flockhart, I don’t think any of those losers deserved to win. Nearly every episode of Murphy was an Emmy tape for Bergen.
ReplyMay 29, 2018 at 8:27 am #1202555254Yikes!
Back in the day Roseanne may have been controversial, but now she’s just downright offensive.
No Emmys for her anymore.
ReplyApril 12, 2018 at 12:26 pm #1202528598No person has ever won SAG three times and never won an Emmy. An Emmy fave/veteran like Macy will have to win eventually, right?
ReplyApril 12, 2018 at 12:17 pm #1202528592I don’t see Cher or Bette accepting because of Trump. Norman Lear probably only accepted because he’s 95 and could not afford to wait three years.
ReplyDecember 8, 2017 at 8:36 am #1202433228The category at the Critics Choice looks like it will be the same at the Oscars.
Sufjan, Lopez, Warren, Pasek&Paul and Menken.
One of the BFCA nominees always misses at the Oscars.

Most of her co-stars from both shows are still alive. I’m sure Dick Van Dyke and Betty White would have agreed to show up if they had been asked. Disgraceful!
