Everyone talking about it being a “slow” year for rap are forgetting that that the big dogs of the genre usually wait to drop until around May. We’ll probably be getting a bunch of big projects announced and released mid May and into the summer.
J.Cole is DEFINITELY coming this year
Travis Scott is coming
Wouldn’t be surprised if Cardi B, Jay-Z, and Lil Wayne drop heavily anticipated projects.
I’m predicting 2023 is actually going to end up being a big year for rap
ReplyMarch 24, 2023 at 8:12 pm #1205363111I’m predicting this to be a big flop.
Hitchcock is one of the auteurs you DON’T TOUCH.
Maybe if it was based on the original novel source material and they were going for a new take on that then maybe we’d have something potentially interesting but remaking Hitchcock is BEGGING to fail
ReplyMarch 15, 2023 at 6:27 am #1205352809It definitely will be submitted by 21 Savage. It’s a collab album. He has rights to submit it even if Drake doesn’t want.
Its not so much about his “right” as it is will he stand in solidarity with Drake’s vow to no longer submit. 21 already has a Grammy so he could not really care. On the other hand he could indeed care we don’t know but i’m leaning towards they both decide not to submit.
In a perfect world Talib Kweli’s Liberation 2 would get a nomination as its his best individual work in YEARS and the rap album of the year so far but its only on Luminary which will kill its chances.

ReplyMarch 14, 2023 at 12:17 pm #1205352091He was actually good, his nod isn’t remotely offensive. Babe, I remember him from Shannara Chronicles too
I’m happy for him ngl he’s come a long way, I’m sure he’ll do more stuff from now on
I was soooooo disappointed in Shannara Chronicles as I was HUGE fan of the book series as a kid. All they had to do was follow the book. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS FOLLOW THE GODDAMN BOOK!
I don’t hold that against Butler however
March 13, 2023 at 3:35 pm #1205351145There is nothing woke about a white straight man in a fat suit winning. Butler lost this because of his behavior during awards season. He was a relative newbie running around like he was Daniel Day Lewis and enough voters were over it.
Lol what terrible horrible “behavior” did Butler exhibit that would make a large number of voters be so aghast that they’d directly vote against him? He talked in Elvis voice? Big deal. Nobody voting REALLY cared about that.
Fraser was the front runner ALL year. He won enough precursor awards to maintain that momentum. And he won. Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor were really the most obvious categories going on weeks now
March 13, 2023 at 5:59 am #1205350119She is def one of the most recognized, but she won everything for TAR. EVERYTHING. Minus that little loss at the SAG awards, and then you started to realize the industry just couldn’t handle letting the opportunity to reward a minority actress slip through their ballots. No matter what the stakes. No matter how acclaimed the work was. And I mean, Everything Everywhere All at Once steamrolled through not just Blanchett, but stole Banshee’s screenplay award too. The Daniels were already winning Director- did the academy have to throw them the writing honors too? Just to make a statement?? Cate’s loss is heartbreaking. All the work she did, all the interviews, and press conferences, and practice it took to play that part. To exceed her own expectations – only to have it taken away. It was like the folks who lost Enron stock. Such a sure thing, a safe bet- but it all turned out to be a scam. To be thatclose and to have it snatched because “We have to make sure history is made tonight honey. That’s why Halle Berry is presenting. You understand don’t you dear?” I certainly wouldn’t. Sorry If I’m coming off rude and blunt, but I’m just stating what many others are certainly feeling. This hurts almost as much as Blanchett losing the Oscar to Gwyneth Paltrow. That was even more embarrassing than tonight. And after that Instagram nonsense, I certainly wouldn’t blame Cate if she simply withdrew her name from future competitions. What’s the point? Like Beyonce’s loss for Renaissance (which was REALLY wrong; the Grammys are dead in my book), If Cate can’t win for playing someone as versed and complicated as Lydia Tar, for learning how to speak German, conduct an orchestra and play piano for the role- she’ll never win again. Voters seem done with her.
Gee Golly Whiskers would someone PLEASE THINK OF THE POOR WHITE WOMEN!!?!!!?

March 12, 2023 at 5:51 pm #1205346083I’m a little surprised their REALLY giving it to Will Smith tonight. Thought they’d mention it in the opening and then leave it alone but their going INNNNNN on him
March 12, 2023 at 5:47 pm #1205346009Angela Bassett DESERVED that Oscar damnit!
March 11, 2023 at 2:27 pm #1205343133Not sure about individual songs but as of right now I think both Nas Kings Disease 3 and Metro Boomin’s Heroes & Villains stand a great chance for the Best Rap Album category
