Connie Britton Q&A: ‘Nashville’
During our recent webcam chat with "Nashville" star Connie Britton (watch below), she reflected on her four Emmy nominations from the past four years for playing three different characters: "I think I've been so lucky… I do play roles that I really love and am excited about and I just try to make them as personal and true and authentic as I can. It's really just that I got really lucky."
On her hit ABC drama, Britton plays country diva Rayna Jaymes. In the second season, she bounced back with her own record label and a new man. Indeed, in the season finale she agreed to marry Luke but then her ex, Deacon, pleaded with her to break off the engagement.
The actress readily admits that her favorite part of the show is "the music side, and that's surprising only because that is without question been the scariest part of the show for me. You know going into this that was the part that sort of lured me in in a way because I was so interested in taking the risk and taking the challenge of trying to do the music and sing these songs and have that element of this character that I’ve never really done before."
As she elaborated, "every time we get to shoot a scene where we're performing on stage… and i get to put on my glittery costume and I've already gone into the studio and recorded the song, an before that I’ve already worked with my vocal coach for hours and hours and hours… and all of those things are so exciting and so nerve racking… but ultimately then to get out on stage and get to perform the song and get to embody the character in that way is so thrilling; and particularly to be able to get to do that in Nashville."
